Thank you for the responses.
I have been trying to avoid leaving the iCalendar ecosystem entirely for two reasons. First, I just like it and am used to it. It works flawlessly and I've come to rely o...
I broke down a couple of weeks ago and got a smart phone. Couldn't afford an iPhone, so I have an inexpensive Android model (LG Tribute 5). So this has splintered my technology network yet further (Wi...
Omniflow.io becomes Dynalist.io
5/10/2016
Thanks for the confirmation, Jaslar. That, unfortunately, makes Dynalist a non-starter with me. Perhaps it will come around.

Omniflow.io becomes Dynalist.io

I appreciate getting word of Dynalist. Looks interesting. I like that you can break up your outlines into separate documents. One issue I've come across is that the folder/document pane does not respo...
One version of Outlinely is now free
4/28/2016
Outlinely is now in version 2. The developer has added a library/folder interface which seems handy. A non-library edition is available for free. Check it out on the App Store.

Andy,
Thanks for the notice. The improvements look very substantial. I am considering a purchase. Am I reading your license correctly when I interpret it that I can use Hyperplan on both a PC and a M...

Circus Ponies suddenly ceased business
2/22/2016
An app that could have had the potential to replace Circus Ponies Notebook's outlining capability was Note Suite, which sadly has also gone belly up. But I found it an excellent outliner. Similar in s...
An alternative to Circus Ponies Notebook

I second the suggestions of Curio and OmniOutliner and would just add that you should also take a look at GrowlyNotes and Outline (although these latter too may be too much like OneNote).

Fetchnotes shuts down

Small consolation, but at least FetchNotes exit was a bit more graceful than Circus Ponies Notebook.

Day One 2 available on Thursday
2/3/2016
As someone who finds utility with Day One, $25 in total to update on both OSx and iOS seems fair and reasonable to me. I don't want the developer to go belly up like so many others, so I'm happy to su...
Day One 2 available on Thursday

This is a notice for Day One fans. According to the developer's blog, version 2 will be out on Thursday. Here's what they say about it:

Card-based productivity software

I have been intrigued by card-based information managers since I used an app called Instant Recall (I think that was the name -- I don't have instant recall anymore) back in the days of DOS. While it ...
Looks like Noteliner has bit the dust
1/30/2016
When I try to access the Noteliner.org site, I got a re-route to Go Daddy trying to sell me the domain name, but with a notice that it expired in December.

BTW, I also wrote an article about Noteliner (which I'd almost forgotten about):

Looks like Noteliner has bit the dust

I check in every now and then to the Noteliner website to see if there has been any development (last was spring of 2013, I believe). Sadly, when I recently checked in I found that the domain (notelin...

Doc,
You might take a look at TheBrain. You can get a concept map approach using the expanded view mode, which allows you to move your "thoughts" around at will. Then you can use the somewhat obtuse,...
Cloud Outliner 2 for OS X

You've summed it up perfectly, Bill.
One suggestion that may be unpalatable for many, but might also work is to rely instead on a mind-map-style program. Applications like Simple Mind and iThoughts h...
Cloud Outliner 2 for OS X

I have OmniOutliner installed on both my MacBooks and on my iPad Air. I can't say that I use it extensively, but I do use it. I haven't experienced any crashes, but my outlines are not big, sprawling ...
