Personal Knowbase is a little overpriced at $50, but it is a mature, stable product that works exactly as advertised. It is not as sophisticated at Connected Text by any means, but it takes a lot less...
Cady,
I am in the same boat as you and Tom. I have MacBook for personal use and a PC at work. I've been trying to find a satisfying solution, and basically I've given up for now. I've got VMFusion on...
Thanks, Shattered Mind of Bob! It's always nice to get a nudge to dust off EccoPro.

Ariadne on the Move

Ah, yes. I hadn't figured out about the Locus feature. That is equivalent to a hoist and does help make the grid/tree more manageable.
You are right about the similarities with InfoSelect.

Ariadne on the Move

I was intrigued by Ariadne when it was originally being developed, and I'm glad to see it is back. I do have some reservations about it. Particularly, it appears that you can't create multiple databas...

DevonThink alternative?

Take the time to look at all the useful video tutorials at the web site. There are a lot of them, and they really do a good job showing all the thoughtful features that they've built into PersonalBrai...
DevonThink alternative?

As Hugh implies, I do not think you will find anything quite like DevonThink that is cross-platform. I can only think of two info managers that are cross platform: PersonalBrain and Evernote. I'm sure...

One day when we we trying to come up with a description for the malady that causes so many of us to rush to install any new information management software on our computers we came up with this acrony...

Ariadne Downloaded - Excited!

I recall Ariadne. It did seem quite elegant, although I remember being a little baffled by some of the functions... I never figured out what a grep was or how to use it. Still, it is nice to see that ...
Future of Brainstorm

I have been in contact with the new developer a couple of times. He sounds sincere about his desire to take Brainstorm forward, but so far there has not been any evidence of this in results. I've sugg...

News on TAO (Mac)
3/9/2010
I just noticed that there is a small update available for TAO, the excellent outliner for Mac. That prompted me to check out the home page where I learned that the application is now selling for just ...
I recently looked at the ndxcards web site -- because they had an Google ad here on OutlinerSoftware.com. Their web site appears new, but the last update to the software was two years ago. Not a good ...
You are right, Chris, Sticky Sorter is very reminiscent of Tinderbox's map view, but with only about 1/10th the power. Nevertheless, it is a handy application for use in Windows, where we don't have a...

What a good Outliner should have
3/7/2010
I agree with Cassius and Hugh. There is a substantive distinction between an outliner and a tree-based information manager or what I'll call a personal knowledge system (PKS). The truth, of course, is...
Noteliner

Mark,
Thanks for the heads up on Noteliner. It is a bit rough around the edges, and feels like an unfinished product, but it also appears to have some nice useability built in. It kind of reminds me ...

As a follow-up, there is an attribute in Tinderbox called "Text." In the CSV file exported from Zoot, if you change the heading of the column called "Body" to "Text," Tinderbox will import the text fr...

Graham,
Like you I use OneNote and Zoot to manage most of my information organization needs at the office, where I work on a PC. I have been eager to get my hands on Zoot 6.0, but have not really tes...

For those really, really interested in this topic, Keith Blount, developer of Scrivener, posted a long -- and, I think, interesting -- post about the iPad, here:
