Outliner/Note-taker with spreadsheet view

Does anybody know of note-taking software that offers a spreadsheet view for entering rows+columns of data? I currently have my data scattered across MyInfo (newer favourite), MyNotesKeeper (for ebooks), TreePad (legacy data), myBase (just testing), and UR (never really got into) -- only this group would understand why . I still can't find the perfect solution! However, I've settled on PersonalBrain for serious thinking and ConnectedText for serious writing and reflection.

From a note-taker, I would like the ability to select "Notes" or "Spreadsheet" view when creating a new topic/node. It seems that much of my "capturing" has to do with lists of information that I would like to sort or sum/average. Anyone else have such a need? It seems that MyNotesKeeper and myBase are going through some revisions -- it would be nice to see this feature added.

Thanks,
Glen

Try TreeSheets http://treesheets.com/

Maybe it's better I don't say... :)

Anyway, take a look at RightNote (www.bauerapps.com) and AM-NoteBook (www.aignes.com)

XLnotes (www.xlnotes.com), a plug in for Excel, has been mentioned here a couple of times.

It's a good idea. Microsoft could strengthen their hand by doing something similar except instead of improving the comments field, they could have OneNote show up there.

Thanks for the advice!

1. TreeSheets -- looks kinda strange; requiring a new mindset
2. RightNote -- has the desired feature-set, but may be a little "kitchen-sink-ish"
3. AM-Notebook -- looks clean and I like the drawing component; is it updated regularly?
4. XLNotes -- I tried the first beta, but found it too buggy; maybe it's better now

Great ideas -- I'll have to install and test for performance. Thanks again.

Glenn,

Yep. I know exactly how you got into this mess!

Anyway, I'm not sure if these are what you are looking for, but I figure they are worth mentioning:

Pigeonhole Organizer:
http://m8software.com/clipboards/pigeonhole/pigeonhole.htm

Notebox Disorganizer:
http://squirreltech.sitesled.com/software/n-docs.html

Each allows you to keep notes in a tabular structure, but neither allows for summing contents or anything like that.

Another option is InfoStore:

http://www.mhsoftware.co.uk/infostore.htm

Information is stored in a familiar tree structure, but each of the nodes on the tree can be either a rich text note or a list. The list nodes are sortable, I believe.

I used this application many years ago and found it was stable and capable. It hasn't been updated in a long time, however.

Glen.

Obviously, you are aware of InfoQube (former SQLNotes) as you wrote a review about it. May I ask why you didn't consider IQ in your quest?

Thanks for those additional options, Stephen. I haven't tried Pigeonhole Organizer, so I'll have to install and play. At the present time, I am considering sticking with ListPro for my list management, although I was hoping for an app that would allow me to consolidate some of my info stores -- but still be light-weight and fast .

Franz -- Good question regarding InfoQube. My personal experience is that it is not yet ready to be a "trusted system." I experienced some data loss awhile back and decided to wait for the product to go gold before continuing my evaluation. Have you been using the latest IQ beta releases successfully? Are you satisfied with its stability?

Thanks -- Glen

I cannot say anything substancial about IQ. The last time I looked at IQ is more than a year ago.

But IQ (and off course Ecco) was the first that came to my mind when I read your post.

Rael, thanks for the heads up on both applications.

Despite their different looks, the two applications seem quite similar in concept. Can they import/export information to each other?

P.S. I can guess that you are connected with RightNote but are you also involved with AM-Notebook?

Steve, thanks for the heads up on Pigeonhole Organizer; I'm sure you've mentioned it in the past here, but it now seems quite a handy solution for a specific task I have in mind.

Re InfoStore, it appears that it's all but dead; here's a note from the download page: "Please note - InfoStore is not currently being sold, but you are welcome to download the trial version and use it for 30 days."

Rael,
thanks for the heads up on both applications.

Despite their different looks, the

to each other?

Both use the same edit control for main note taking, so this content can be transferred quite easily between the 2 applications. AM-Notebook stores it's spreadsheet content in a custom format (not sure why...), so this content cannot easily be transferred to RightNote (although you can use a work-around. You can contact our support if you are interested).

RightNote includes export/import spreadsheet data to/from ms excel (xls) format. We are also working on a native excel import/export, which means import/export operations will be very quick (they tend to be slow via current method that depends on ms excel being installed), and not require ms excel to be installed. Hopefully this will be ready within a few weeks.

P.S. I can guess that you are connected with RightNote

Correct..

but are you also involved with AM-Notebook?

No. Just referring to another product.
