A long overdue update for Outline
9/4/2023
Well, this is amusing.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... there was once a OneNote clone called Outline, available for macOS and iOS.
And after the removal of (quite a few) bugs, syncing ...

That's why Scapple is the way it is – no complex layering, just a series of easily adjusted relationships ;-)
On the Bike front: of course you can create a very complex series of Bike outl...

Great to hear – thanks, Jesse.
Ah, so that's what "outlining mode" means! I confess I was slightly baffled by this, even after searching through Bike's online help. Now that is a really us...

I agree, tagging would be the icing on the cake. Of course you can insert tags and then search for them – Bike's search function is excellent – but it's not the same thing as fil...
Thanks for the tip, Franz!

Yeah, the name is a bit odd. Wasn't there some kind of font utility called AnyType back in the day? Maybe there still is?

Ah yes, I've remembered what I was wittering about earlier. Lotus Agenda wasn't the app I was thinking of, as it happens – I was thinking of Lotus Organizer, originally developed by a small UK-b...
I have to say many of the plugins are spectacular. For example, you can easily build sophisticated calculations into Obsidian (using tables or code blocks). You can use columns. You have a wide variet...
Re: Obsidian – I've just realised you can indeed embed blocks by putting an exclamation mark in front of the block ID. I must try it!
Hm, yes, nice description of the main differences between LogSeq and Obsidian, but slightly outdated. Obsidian uses a hybrid markdown mode nowadays, so you don't have to switch to preview (although yo...

Heh, that's amusing. I made my Lotus Notes comment before reading the interesting YCombinator thread – and the very first post mentions Lotus Notes. Well, there are a few people who remembe...

Oh dear, the Lotus Agenda thing again. I can't believe people are still "accusing" developers of ripping off Agenda. It's an ancient program, pretty good in its own way, but with very limited resembla...
I think the choice between LogSeq and Obsidian is very much down to your preferred way of working. Personally, I've found Obsidian's base version much more intuitive, and only gradually added plugins ...

Ah, and in fact they have a rather useful roadmap on their home page. Team wikis and shareable docs are planned for Q3 2023, while community hubs, public blogs and collaborative projects are planned f...

My brief play yesterday evening suggests AnyType is indeed set up for collaboration, they just haven't finalised it yet (there are various UI elements that refer to sharing, commenting etc.)

Wow, AnyType has really evolved from the very basic concept I was playing with a few months ago. Very sophisticated stuff – I've just imported a whole bunch of Obsidian files at impressivel...

Love it. Of course, if your spork was really SporkGPT, maybe that *would* be more serious...

I'm very glad to hear you're okay, @Steve.

Ha, this more or less describes my position – except I also use Bear to capture interesting web pages (although more and more, I rely on History Book to do that automatically). The Bear ext...

For those still unaware of UpNote, it's an excellent alternative to Evernote, not least because it's totally cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS – yes, and Linux).
Cheers,

Well, that is unexpected – and somewhat mind-boggling!
I'm glad I cancelled my Evernote sub last year... (all imported into UpNote, in my case)

Hm. This is an interesting question, and I've mused on it for many years. I think the answer is actually quite simple. You're using software that's genuinely useful to you every day, for large parts o...
