Vivaldi web browser
1/9/2016
I tell yer wot, Vivaldi running on a Mac is remarkably resource-efficient.
It even runs Chrome offline apps, although it is prone to crash, and doesn't run them "properly" (i.e. in their own headless...
Vivaldi web browser
1/8/2016
Oh, I tell a lie. Yes, Vivaldi can run Chrome extensions (it's based on Webkit, but then so is Safari, and as far as I know the latter really can't run Chrome extensions!).
Vivaldi web browser
1/8/2016
Vivaldi is nice, I will admit. But I've really taken to Opera's new ability to run Chrome plug-ins/extensions (without being Chrome, which I've banned from all my machines). I'm not sure Vivaldi can d...

Let's not forget: Scrivener and Ulysses for iPad and iPhone in 2016 (Keith's already published photos of Scrivener running...
Wow, that is so hard-core minimalist. The total opposite of CRIMPing. I'm seriously impressed!
SmartDown
1/8/2016
He's a very nice bloke and responds very readily to queries, suggestions etc. I've got both versions of SmartDown, and I think it's very promising.
As for the two companies thing (Aflava, Neomobili),...
My interest in Chromebooks has been revived by the astonishingly good Toshiba (with HD screen), which I spent about half an hour playing with in John Lewis and very nearly bought. However, I'm very mu...
Ulysses progress
1/4/2016
There are just two more things that would, IMHO, render Ulysses the total, ultimate, Markdown editor:
- the addition of support for the GitHub task format, ideally done as elegantly as in LetterSpace ...
Memonic - an Evernote Replacement?
1/2/2016
Alas, dead as a doornail. Quite promising when it first appeared - I had quite a lot of data stored in Memonic. But they gave up in, yes, 2013.
ConnectedText for Mac, Windows and iOS?
12/30/2015
Yes, fair point, guv; I agree that it makes little sense not to automatically link subtasks, for example (although they're shown in the "Info" pane for an individual item, as are parents); treating su...
ConnectedText for Mac, Windows and iOS?
12/30/2015
Yes, in basic terms they're both very similar (especially Outwiker), but Sorting Thoughts goes further in its support of cross-linking (and tracing of links), and also its remarkably powerful project ...
ConnectedText for Mac, Windows and iOS?
12/29/2015
Well, okay, maybe not quite, but Sorting Thoughts (sortingthoughts.de) is a very intriguing app with desktop versions for MacOS and Windows, and a nice, simple iOS version. It thrives on relationships...
Thanks, Jaslar. Although I must say, there are a few odd entries and exclusions there (e.g. EgretList, taken over by Evernote in 2010 and more or less discontinued, I believe).
Actually, it's pretty cool. It's mainly standard Markdown, but does have three different "modes". Each page you create (it's not immediately obvious that it maintains its own library of "pages", which...
Ulysses 2.1 for iPad/Mac - folding, .docx
12/20/2015
I think you mean the beta version of Ulysses for iPhone - yes, looking forward to that (have applied, haven't received yet!)
Virtual machines for CRIMPers
12/19/2015
I realise this is not directly relevant to outlining, but it is tangentially relevant.
Over the years, the forum has seen much grumbling about the fact you can get certain favourite progs/apps on one...

Disappointing "updates" - Asana & Todoist
12/19/2015
Depends on the platform: the asterisk still works on e.g. iOS, but doesn't appear to work on other platforms.
Bloody irritating. An exchange with the support people indicated that Todoist is moving o...
Gingko
12/18/2015
The amazing Gingko appears to have some competition - from germ.io
It appears to be a task management app based on a concept identical to that of Gingko. But still no offline apps, as far as I can te...
Wot a hoot! I can kind of see the appeal, for a very, very text-focused personality type.

Relational databases
12/11/2015
I know the whole concept appears to have died a death nowadays: for the few people who still use relational databases in smaller businesses, FileMaker Pro reigns supreme. Some poor, unfortunate souls ...
Beginning to see the light with org-mode
11/30/2015
On the one hand: splendid. On the other hand: where's the elegance? The simplicity?
The answer, I suppose, is that if you want such things, you can always code them yourself... ;-)
New version of StickyBrain
11/29/2015
One of the best note-taking alternatives launched recently (for the Mac) is TaskCard 2.0, which is seriously powerful. Alas, no iOS client yet, but a very impressive piece of software.
New version of StickyBrain
11/29/2015
Yep, it is, especially for what's on offer. I've kindly downloaded it, so I could evaluate it and tell you all about it. And it's disappointing. The "rich text" is based on Apple's own text components...
