I just wanted to point out that it’s good time to checkout this cool portable note organizer if you haven’t already done so.
Jusu, the main developer, has been very busy and has released numerous versions this year alone.
Also, he seem very open to requests and comments which I’ve happily experienced myself.
Below are some of the highlights that IMO make this app a very good contender with other popular notetakers:
- Notes and attachments are stored in folder and file structure without any database restrictions
- Fully portable
- Ability to drag and drop file attachments and pictures. PDFs show inline preview inside of the note
- Search as you type with different color per keyword highlighting (similar to Evernote)
- Tags
- Ability to open each note in its own window
- Very re-sizable windows and minimal GUI
- simple rich text , markdown and HTML note types
- Open source and on GitHub
- Available on Windows, Mac, and Linux

Also, here are some recent changes:
v29:
- PDFs are rendered at better quality when needed
- Scrollbars now look the part in all platforms
- Some memory was not collected when closing note windows
v28:
- Added View | Hide Sidebar
- Added Note | Open Note in Separate Window. Also works by doubleclicking a note in Note List
- Added File | Close
v27:
- Fixed CTRL+ keymapping (increase text size) for US key layouts.
v26:
- Fixed bug affecting copy-paste from rtf-note to plain text note
- Added fontScale setting for scaling fonts. Set to less than one to shrink and more than one to enlarge.
- Added “pastePlaintext” setting to always paste text in plain text, ignoring styling. Default is false.

Possibly interesting, but it crashes 30 seconds after it launches on OS X 10.11.6. Every time.

I tried to install it on Windows 10 and was unsuccessful.

It looks great - but it’s a Java app. I don’t do those any more, alas. I’m steadily honing down the apps on my systems to exclude Java, Flash and Google platforms that could be used as vectors.
Not saying there aren’t plenty of other ways in, of course - in fact, that’s precisely the point. I’m getting rid of the obvious ones. Eventually I might start to hone down the less obvious ones! Meanwhile I have a wonderful collection of protective ‘ware that watches e.g. my network connections, camera/mike, and any compression activities on my machine (indicating potential ransomware) and warns me about Naughty Bunnies who are trying to Take Advantage…
Hey, it’s a connected world out there!
