"Note taking with mind maps"
4/6/2018
Also worth bearing in mind is the power of iWorks for mindmap-like approaches. Numbers in particular is useful here, because the tabbed worksheets can be used as multiple whiteboards. The recent upgra...

Yes, the saved searches feature is nice. Otherwise (the newly Markdown-enabled) Simplenote is the most obvious direct competitor.
But it's a good start.
My new Wacom Folio is actually rather good; the capture is remarkably precise (considering you're writing with what feels like a standard biro on standard A4 paper), and the transfer to iPad has been ...

Another useful review (because by sensible writer with hands-on experience) of the new iPad 2018, comparing it with the Pro:

I was, however, encouraged by a review that suggested there's very little difference in the feel of the new iPad (when using Apple Pencil) from the way an iPad Pro feels. From Alphr:
"The Apple Penci...

Oh dear. Some fragile personalities, I feel.
Firstly, I suggest a fruitful forum should always involve a modicum of self-irony: i.e. don't take yourself too seriously.
Second, I've got no problem wi...

Seems like a somewhat drastic reason for returning to Windows computing! There are other options: Outline (mentioned in another thread recently) imports Circus Pony notebooks, for example. Apparently ...

Yo Adrian,
Don't worry - as you will already have seen, the world is divided into those who by default and as a result, no doubt, of bitter childhood experiences, impute the most cynical motives to s...

Yes, I see what you mean - I've just discovered that the Crayon isn't pressure-sensitive, and find no mention of it (yet) on Logitech's websites.
Damn. It'll just have to be the Apple Pencil, then......
Sorry: quite right, I meant to put my remark about Writers Cafe here, not under Gingko. Doh!
SoftMaker Office

Okay, so it's only very tangentially related to outlining, but it's worth mentioning that SoftMaker Office is now available for Mac.

Yup, that's the one. I used to do quite a lot of work with this tool.

Reminds me a bit of the (now-defunct) Writers Cafe, a rather elegant piece of software in its day.

In fact, I didn't *entirely* hold out - I got a Wacom Folio instead, which is a notebook with a cunningly concealed digitiser that responds to a battery-less pen. You'll find lots of reviews slagging ...

... as Apple announces that henceforth, their base-level iPad will support Apple Pencil! And Logitech promptly announce a "Crayon" that will be half the price of a Pencil.
Actually, that's amazing. T...

The convoluted markdown sounds very intriguing! Please do send it, or post it somewhere downloadable.
Thanks very much!

Slightly baffled by this: Scrivener DOES have a "main central big editor window" as a default feature...

Oh yes, it certainly can - you can have as many layers of subitems as you like, on both sides of the outline (i.e. in the navigation bar AND in the editor).
But I'm not sure it does numbering. No, in...

Intriguing: what exactly do you mean by "multi-layered"? You could argue that Todoist is multi-layered (navigation bar outlines, in turn referring to editor outlines), but clearly you have something e...

Yes, I've become somewhat disillusioned with the mostly excellent Outlinely as Glam Development cease talking to anyone and fail to release any updates at all. They did exactly the same thing with the...

Yup, dual outlines, in fact. It's a dual-pane app that can "fold" the contents of the left-hand navigation pane AND the right-hand "editor" pane. It supports markdown, and you can switch off the check...

Todoist is a very useful outliner, it must be said, with fantastic cross-platform support.
Otherwise I'd go with washere's recommended simplenote, or else with Joplin, both of which have full cross-p...
