MacJournal 7/9/2018
If there's fear of anyone tracking anything, then Little Snitch or similar is a good idea. Using Snitch, I've never noticed anything untoward about MJ. I've used MacJournal steadily for over a deca...

Turns out we cannot search on "#" here. Oh well. Paul Korm wrote: Nice idea. Maybe we can do this ourselves if we remember to use >hashtags at the front or end of postings > >#ideas #forum #dont_...

Which "favorite" outliner app would you give up if something better came along 7/8/2018
I use OO5 because I need the custom columns, and for things that need to be exported with styling (as mentioned by Steve -- very nice example he posted, by the way). Of course Word or Pages can do t...
Which "favorite" outliner app would you give up if something better came along 7/7/2018
Sorry, long topic title. I was thinking about which of my "favorite" outliner apps I would give up if something better came along. Unfortunately "favorite" doesn't necessarily mean good or great, ...
MacJournal 7/7/2018
BTW, WiFi sync does not always work on mesh networks. I find it is more reliable to create a network on my laptop, connect the iPad to that network, and then sync MJ on both machines.
MacJournal 7/7/2018
Entry templates are in my top 5 MacJournal goodies list. I use these for daybook entries and other categories. Dellu's spot on about the hidden preferences -- I doubt there is much consumer softwar...
MacJournal 7/6/2018
Welcome to MacJournal, Bill. I agree with everything you wrote. Though I am still concerned that there seems to have been silence from Dan since 2 years ago. (Maybe he started a new blog some pl...
Favored "bucket" app - DEVONthink v. Keep-It vs. EagleFiler etc 7/5/2018
I'm not a fan of the "bucket app" idea. We all have a terrific "bucket app" by default -- the file system. I'd suggest the problem should be approached from the needs perspective -- what are your ...
Edit on iOS -- does one thing and does it right 7/5/2018
Yes. Definitely wasn't a good idea to post a recommendation for something I like and use without first consulting those who know better. Now I know! Many thanks for setting me straight.
Edit on iOS -- does one thing and does it right 7/4/2018
@satis is complete right, as usual. Drafts rules, of course. Chris -- if you are following along, please delete this thread so more folks aren't mislead about Edit.
Edit on iOS -- does one thing and does it right 7/3/2018
Then don't use it? Really, it's about simple. Sometimes that's appealing. satis wrote: The Focus Mode in Drafts 5 duplicates Edit's static, neverending page - >yet does approximately one million ...
Dynalist gets an API 7/3/2018
It's a very minimalist API. Get a document. Post changes to a document. Send data to the Dynalist Inbox. Someone writing a native app would have to do all of the 98% of the rest of work involve...
Edit on iOS -- does one thing and does it right 7/3/2018
Sure, all versions since v1. But the point of Edit is it does only one thing. Which is all I need most of the time. Luhmann wrote: Have you tried Drafts? > >http://getdrafts.com/ > >It is a si...
Edit on iOS -- does one thing and does it right 6/30/2018
I think it's been mentioned here before, but this app is worth highlighting: Edit, by K.Q. Dreger https://audaciousfox.net/projects/edit Edit (on iOS) does only one thing, and the developer promise...
SheetPlanner website is live 6/30/2018
Peter, I definitely agree with Bill. And I like the Pro/Standard concept. From looking at screenshots and not the real deal, I definitely think you've designed a thoughtful, quite utile service. ...
SheetPlanner website is live 6/29/2018
That's on the high end of task apps -- Omnifocus Pro territory. Without an web or an iOS companion app, without sync, and especially without an iPhone presence I think it's a push. Are you going...

Looks nice (sheetplanner.com). What's the pricing scheme going to be? One-time license or subscription?

Visual Studio Code -- not just for development. Large library of extensions. Free. From Microsoft -- deep pockets and so not suffering from single-developer-itis. https://code.visualstudio.com
"Summerfest" Mac Software Sale 6/26/2018
Lucas, if you have an anonymized version you'd be willing to share as a template it would be interesting to see your approach. Lucas wrote: >For instance, I recently created a customized >task manage...
ConnectedText on wine / mac and zettelkasten programs 6/25/2018
I've attempted several times over the years to run ConnectedText in a CrossOver bottle. CrossOver is a hyped up, sort of pricey, version of wine. CT runs OK, but CT's user interface gets ugly when...
"Summerfest" Mac Software Sale 6/25/2018
I'll take the bait. Tinderbox is overpriced if what you want to do less than what Tinderbox does. So, avoid it. I wouldn't buy Mathematica if I needed a calculator. Same difference. But if you ...

The "Summerfest" sale on macOS software is up and running again this year. http://artisanalsoftwarefestival.com/ Includes 25% off on Tinderbox, DEVONthink, Scrivener and a number of other titles. ...

Thanks for the tip. I installed in and explored the features. I think it would be useful for someone just getting started with Windows, but since I already have applications and integrations that d...

Glad to see you're back ... I think templates for planning a trip, planning a research project, and tracking a team's action plan would be useful. SheetPlanner wrote: All, > >SheetPlanner will incl...
