I have just stumbled upon Typora.
https://typora.io/

It is a minimalist markdown editor with a huge feature set - including mathematics, diagrams and is available for macOS and Windows.

Best,
Dominik

Typora is pretty good. I use it not as a primary Markdown editor, but for change of pace.

If you search this forum you'll find other already posted comments on Typora.

Typora has come along nicely. I think I tried in first in 2015, at which point it was getting updates every few days. (In fact having to constantly download an unending series of updates pushed me away from the app at the time.)

Did they ever decide on a sale price for when it hits v1.0? I know they keep holding off on bringing it out of beta (it's gotta' be 4 years old at this point), and currently at the minutely-incremented, ever-closer v.0.9.9.16.2.

The one thing the app had going for it was WYSIWYG Markdown, but I remember reading a tweet(?) from Max saying that this is something planned for the next upcoming Ulysses version....

If anyone's interested, I wrote a review of Typora on my blog, including a 3-minute demo video:

An advantage Typora has over Ulysses (and several other MacOS apps) is that it has a Windows version.

Hi Steve, many thanks; as always, your review is a timesaver and a Decision Support Tool in one :)

One minor point: I understand that Typora is available for MacOS, Windows and Linux; I did not see iOS mentioned in its website.

Hi, Alexander,

I believe you are correct. Typora does not have an iOS app (yet -- not sure if they're planning one). I got that wrong in my review. I'll correct it. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for pointing out the error.

Typora isn't in the iOS App Store, at this time.

I have just read this information in the current German IT journal c't (Edition 18 / 18th August 2018) regarding Typora:
"The paid version of Typora will be released around the end of this year with low two-digit price."

Not really a precise information so let's hope...

Best,
Dominik

Typora has finally (!) exited beta status, and is now a buyable app. For a very modest $15!

It’s genuinely cross-platform (macOS, Windows, Windows ARM and Linux), and is for my money one of the most elegant markdown editors out there.

No, it doesn’t have mobile apps – that’s because you can turn any set of folders into a Typora library, so you can use your preferred Markdown editor on your mobile platform, provided it writes to a set of folders you can sync with your desktop.

It has one of the best search engines of any text editor (very fast, with results shown by filename with every single occurrence of the search term in the file listed with a short extract and highlighted search term). So good is the search engine that for my money, it obviates the need for tags.

And it takes a very sensible approach to file viewing. You can view files as a standard folder/file list, as a list of “articles” (= straight list of files showing short extract for each file), or you can switch from that into table of contents (outline) mode for the file you’re currently looking at.

It also allows you to open files in multiple windows.

In short, very nice piece of software – I totally recommend as an excellent alternative to all those nice but expensive writing apps out there.

Not quite sure why I used the phrase “for my money” twice in the previous post. I don’t habitually use it at all, so… hm, bit weird...

Looks very good, thanks for the heads up!
