My handwriting has indeed gotten worse, and I can type way faster than I can write. But I use some little pocket notebooks throughout the day, more as a kind of scratchpad -- jot down a URL, or call b...
Simplenote now has Internal Links
11/4/2020
Thanks. It's pretty easy on the Android and Linux platforms I tested. Wonder how long it will take before we see links FROM other notes (Roam). I'm finding that Simplenote has been a very reliable too...
A very clear and concise explanation. Thanks.

Tips from Anylist Users?
10/31/2020
For shared lists, I've been using either Google Keep or SimpleNote, both free and easy to use with others.

That sounds about right, Chris. A refresh, the ability to edit my own posts, and I'd be good. Muting, hiding a poster is nice but not necessary. I like the idea of a community curated catalog. I often...
Outliner on elementary OS: move to bin
10/30/2020
I agree about Notecase Pro. And I"ve now put in enough hours on emacs org-mode (and markdown-mode) to put it on the short list. I used to use hnb, and have several times installed tines, which remains...
Outliner on elementary OS: move to bin
10/29/2020
I have really enjoyed the Outliner app for elementary OS. See https://github.com/phase1geo/Outliner
I haven't tried to do the git clone function on a non-elementary machine, so that's a caveat.
But ...
How many tags?
10/28/2020
Mostly, I write in outlines. But I do dump a lot of random thoughts into SimpleNote. I just realized that I have been arbitrarily limiting, trying not to proliferate, my tags. It's a carryover from th...

Great read, thanks! I remember being excited by an article I read about Tinderbox, and its "agents" running around finding all these connections. But I never invested in that. So, are YOU finding this...
Evernote reinventing itself

Did that happen with Pages? I recall that it once had Appleworks style outlining, but that outlining disappeared in the app. Did it return?
I think that's true for anyone who wants to effect change in their lives. If you can't quite get a handle on that, you pour your energy into the abstracted process as represented by software, hoping t...

EXCELLENT experiment, and I appreciate your taking the time to report the results.
Lack of up-to-date outliners

I'd have to give the nod to Notecase Pro (https://www.notecasepro.com/) over Cherry Tree. Notecase is very full-featured, under active development, good across Windows/Linux/Mac/Android.

Next computer platform after Chromebook
7/27/2020
Thought I'd post my final decision. I bought a Pixelbook Go, a Chromebook with 8 gigs of RAM, 64 gigs of storage, and a memory card reader. Why?

2019 reflection question
7/13/2020
Thanks for these last responses, which get at the substance of my original question.
I was fooling around with old software (KAMAS under DOSBox-X) and realized that all of this use of outliners throu...
Thanks everyone. I love the many different perspectives, which is why I tend to do these open ended questions. You often surprise me!
Thanks, Ken, I'll check it out. And sorry for typo above. I use a COMPUTER for browsing, correspondence (email), then outliners for most everything else.
I think I mentioned before that three years ago I bought a nice looking but small Chromebook. It turns out it was two years old, and though new, it is reaching end of support at the end of this month....
What I learned about collaboration

Ken, it might be a *little* off topic, but it's certainly the kind of information management case likely to interest this community. I didn't know about ANY of the services you mentioned. I once helpe...
Multicolumn list program?
6/16/2020
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Gingko (https://gingkoapp.com/). Its whole thing is horizontal outlining, meaning it's easy to edit from the keyboard to shuffle things around columns.

I went to the page via my elementaryOS machine, then to Demo. I gather that I'm supposed to be able to click on "new item" and get an entry -- but the option is grayed out, and I can't select it. Nor ...
InfoQube Outliner Announcement

Pierre, this sounds terrific. Can you post a screenshot or two? I'm a Linux user, too, but Wine crufts up my system with stuff. I'd like to take a gander at the UI, though. (I suppose I could do a VM ...
simple Task management in Google Sheets
4/22/2020
I see your point. After I studied the first link I sent about using Excel, I see that it was actually pretty sophisticated. Then I poked around with Google Sheets, which also has checkboxes and groupi...
I stumbled across this today. Fluid Outliner is a github, open source project. The software lives on the web. The files live on your computer.

Right, and Excel allows you to fold. I don't know if Sheets does or not.
