Escaping from The Brain
3/28/2013
I've spent the day on various forums and can provide some information more about how to get files from The Brain into ConnectedText.
1) In The Brain go to the reports tag (without filter), choose "re...
Escaping from The Brain

@Dr Andus
Thanks. I didn't know Directory Opus could batch rename a file to the name of it's directory, so though that's not a complete solution, it may be a help! I did intend asking the question ...

Escaping from The Brain

@Stephen Zeoli
You can certainly create a sitebrain from version 7 but it's not as good or feature rich as from version 6. When The Brain moved to v 7 they marketed improved sitebrain export, but wit...
Escaping from The Brain
3/27/2013
Because of The Brain's policy of emasculating web output from The Brain in favour of using their cloud service, I'm stuck with version 6 and its idiosyncracies and weaknesses mean I want to move a 900...
Your top 3 tools?

Oh, how I envy those able to name just three "main" applications! But as Dr Andus did specify just outliner, PIM, writing, note-taking I suppose I would have plump for:
1) OneNote, as a general repos...

Ingo,
You've clearly got a bigger car than me ;-) But I also find the pricing reasonable - it's half of what The Brain charges and it's not the type of software which will sell millions of copies so...
This may be the nature of the beast. I use PhraseExpander and previously its predecessor Direct Access, and in both cases starting up The Brain or Quickbooks disabled the software, so I have to close...

Gary, you more or less outlined my own thinking about this.
I use PaperPort as a scanner front end and do look regularly at document management software, but they all require a lot of discipline to...
Paperless / PaperPort 14
1/18/2013
I refer the honorable gentlemen to forum posts at http://forums.debenu.com/no-functions_topic114.html - if it does work on some 64 bit systems, it clearly doesn't on all - including mine :-(
Paperless / PaperPort 14
1/18/2013
Thanks - I've no need for a scanner front-end but Benubird looks interesting - strange that I didn't find it mentioned when looking for PaperPort alternatives.
Unfortunately it doesn't work on Window...

Thanks for the responses.
I'm surprised at how little we (on this forum) look at programs like Paperless and PaperPort (inasmuch as this is as much an information management software forum as an outl...
Paperless / PaperPort 14

There's a product called Paperless on Bits du Jour today (http://www.bitsdujour.com/software/paperless-2), a document scanning, filing and management system.
I gave it a try and wasn't overly impress...
Multiple Monitors
1/15/2013
Jeez, am I the only poor s*d on this forum with a single, rather small, monitor!? I must admit, it wouldn't cross my mind to install a second one.
Mind you, I have three computers running side by sid...

White board software

Thanks @Bill. That reminds me of VUE with a price tag, and also of a package which was mentioned on this forum and was in beta around the end of 2011 and start of 2012, with a developer I think based ...
White board software

@Slartibartfast - I've tried Compendium before when also initially trialling VUE - I think it suffers from overcomplexity. I did download again and try the version 2 beta, but I still can't get my he...
White board software
12/17/2012
@Bill There's something similar on my Samsung Note but what I'm trying to visualise is horrendously complex - I had about 100 nodes and 500 links in the VUE graphic I attempted before despair set in, ...

White board software

@ Dr Andus Thanks but wow! The most user unfriendly, obtuse and circuitous route to allow somebody to download a trial version of software I've come across in a long time. And that for a 3 day trial! ...

Hopefully not too far off topic, I'm wondering if anybody can point me towards a white board software, specifically one that imitates as closely as possible using a white board with just sticky notes ...
