Big letdown. Looks like you can't customize columns.

I don't see it on Bits today but thanks for bringing it up. I'm going to try it. I've been trying to better organize my PDF's. I wasn't looking for anything too complicated: just something that wil...

I'm in the same position. I'm thinking about getting it just because it seems decently powerful and is on sale. Looking at it closer might be a future retirement project. I kind of regret not getti...

How do you mark the internet as "finished"? 10/1/2013
Thanks for everyone's detailed suggestions. I have a lot to work through. As Jim mentioned, I want to stick with PDF's because I more easily do markups. I used Scrapbook Plus for a while but finall...
save webpage as pdf with clickable links? 10/1/2013
I've had the same experience with "Print to PDF". Some links are preserved but many are not. The biggest problem though is that it regularly butchers pages to the point that they're unreadable (over...
save webpage as pdf with clickable links? 10/1/2013
Jim, Lately I've been using the Firefox Addon "Print Pages to PDF." It preserves clickable links. It also claims to convert Scrapbook files to pdf's though I can't test it right now because Scrapbo...

How do you mark the internet as "finished"? 9/29/2013
Gary, Nothing earth-shattering. It's just a waste of time to download the article again, figure out that it's a duplicate, and delete it. Often I change the name of the file when I download it from...
How do you mark the internet as "finished"? 9/29/2013
Alexander, That's what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, it's a Chrome extension and I use Firefox or IE to capture articles. I like to convert webpages to PDF's. This can be done by printing the we...
How do you mark the internet as "finished"? 9/29/2013
Cassius, That looks like a good way to check for duplicates but I'm hoping to avoid the extra steps each time I want to capture an article.
How do you mark the internet as "finished"? 9/29/2013
This is a nagging problem that I've never been able to find a satisfactory answer for. I've finally settled on a reliable system for capturing net information but I don't know how to keep track of w...
Advice on research software 8/17/2013
Yes, I'd already been thinking about the problem of maintaining contest if the material is broken up into snippets. You could partly get around this by assigning text needed for context to the same f...
Advice on research software 8/17/2013
ML, I appreciate the detailed explanation of how you did your photo research. I'll have to think about how I could apply some of your approach to my own text research. It sounds like you found Filem...

Thanks, "Other" Bill. That's what I was looking for. I think I'll do a trial of Filemaker and set up a small sample database that I can experiment with.
Advice on research software 8/17/2013
Bill, it's interesting how you've been able to overcome one of Evernote's weak points. For this particular project though, I think I"m going to need something different. Organizing will be paramoun...
Advice on research software 8/17/2013
Yes, Steve, I've read his blog. I may very well go with ConnectedText but I was hoping to get some feedback on whether anyone has tried to use a regular database program for the kind of work I'm desc...

Amode V3 plans shelved 6/26/2013
Thanks for bringing this up. I hadn't heard of this software. If these are the same people who developed Bluebeam Revu, I'm interested on that basis alone.
Your top 3 tools? 2/26/2013
1) PDF Revu. I spent several frustrating years trying to find a good PDF mark-up tool. Now that I've found it, it has truly changed the way I work. When I have to do a job I often try to organize i...
Text expander and clipboard enhancer tools 2/9/2013
I'm a decent speller, so I rarely need to have a blatant misspelling corrected. 90% of my spelling mistakes are simple transpositions when I'm typing fast. I type "takign" instead of "taking". I su...
