notetaking blog
10/23/2011
Oh yeah, My Notetaking Nerd writes a lot about notetaking apps, he's a big connectedtext fan like Marcus.
There aren't many blogs out there like that, so I mostly get my news on the niche via Google...

Just fyi, the cyborganize.org site was broken for a good long while and is just now working again.
I started experimenting with different themes and then got distracted, but now am finishing up rewr...
Team solutions #1: Text development
10/23/2011
For sharing BrainStormWFO models, the best way is to output to text file as tab indent and then paste into freemind, then export as html.
The result is very readable.
This doesn't give editing cap...

Re collaborative document editing and sharing:
The key for this type of need is to have something that is
1. readable, and
2. usable by everyone
The best solution I've found is to create a separat...
I use TiddlyWiki, and have a post explaining the learning curve here: http://www.cyborganize.org/productivity/software/tiddlywiki-installation/
Also, Emacs Org Mode doesn't so much use the file syste...
Off Topic - Software that can tag paragraphs
10/12/2011
After reading the OP and Lucas' nice post, I revise my answer.
The real question is, how do you rearrange your writing.
You're basically looking for BrainStormWFO. There's no tagging. Instead, you ...
Off Topic - Software that can tag paragraphs

I regularly tag paragraphs in Emacs.
You must create a separate outline level for the paragraph to tag it.
* level one

** level two ::tag::

Why do you CRIMP?

I also don't know what you consider to be "big data" but my largest org-mode file is 94 megabytes of plain text... and it works without lag. That's enough to choke any other PIM I know of that's more ...
Andus, very glad to be of some help.
I think that sums up why we CRIMP in a word...

I've decided to shift my focus away from any attempt to market or promote Cyborganize and instead just build a clearer product. So no, this is merely sharing an enthusiastic discovery I made yesterday...
correction - Org-Mode is a three pane outliner, since it supports inline metadata and also has "panes" or "views" where that metadata is collected and can be modified.
The three panes -

#1 - You can have different outline visibility settings in a split screen view of the same file in Org-Mode. You must open an "indirect buffer", with the command C-c C-x b
This puts org-mode right up...
ConnectedText v5
9/25/2011
I've been hearing a lot about connectedtext and even trialed it on Ubuntu, where it didn't impress me, although perhaps that was partly due to Wine and the giant "trial" text splashed across everythin...
Outliner/PIM roll call: Fall 2011
9/25/2011
Interesting. I agree that BrainStormWFO is not suited for long texts. I currently use org-mode and wikis for that. Does sense have a link? It's seemingly impossible to Google it.

You need one of those natural keyboards that has offset keys and big fat alt and ctrl keys to use emacs. I have on and hitting the modifier keys is effortless. on a normal keyboard yes it would be a n...
Why do you CRIMP?

Well, I really hope you like it Jim, because you just wrote another thing that went in my epic quotes file. This was the best part in my opinion: "the search for the ideal PIM software is really subor...

Alex, I'll look into restoring the old blog, probably a lot of valuable info there. No idea if it's possible.

Not a bad system at all Alex, those choices make a great deal of sense. I could see myself using some of those as extensions in the roles you mentioned. Specifically Evernote for collection, Treesheet...

Nice, I'll recommend OPML Editor as an alternative to org-mode. Any chance you'll post your notes on switching between it and BrainStormWFO?
Outliner for redacting?
9/22/2011
Emacs is impossibly forbidding unless you find the right resources, and then it's pretty easy. I haven't tried vim yet but would probably use an emacs minor-mode to emulate it.
Anyway here's a resou...
Outliner for redacting?

For rapidly rewriting text Emacs and Vim are best because they give hotkeys for rapid navigation through text. Vim is actually better at this, but I prefer Emacs for the superior outlining capabilitie...

I agree that the relational database that UR does so well becomes necessary at a certain point.
I used to use UR to try to do too much, for purposes where it wasn't necessary or was ill-suited, whic...

Why do you CRIMP?

I no longer CRIMP, but I used to because of the following needs/problems, whether consciously or unconsciously felt:
1. mental fragmentation
2. inability to efficiently determine best next action
