Scrivener for Windows versus Writing outliner add-in for MS Word 11/10/2011
Ultra Recall is not going to work for multiple gigs of data. If for no other reason than the Windows file size limit. Does Smereka face the same problem? Sounds like it would. Sounds like you are ...
Scrivener for Windows versus Writing outliner add-in for MS Word 11/10/2011
Since we're on the topic, anyone know a good document manager for all types of docs, not just pdfs? I checked and Mendeley doesn't fit the bill. Linux compatibility would be nice.
CintaNotes out of beta 11/9/2011
Thanks, now I've got several options to test in a specific role. I'll also try creating a separate Org buffer and just using tagging and headers to separate and file notes.
CintaNotes out of beta 11/7/2011
That's kind of an interesting idea. When you're not officially working on something, but you come across a related snippet, throw it into a miscellaneous buffer of snippets tagged by category, inste...
CintaNotes out of beta 11/6/2011
That's interesting. Is it a mental fragmentation issue or simply that navigating to the proper scratch file or chron tape takes longer in TextPad? In Emacs switching is fast and keyboard controlled,...
CintaNotes out of beta 11/6/2011
So basically it's a fast, lightweight staging area. I can see the use case for that, especially if your secondary staging area is a bit heavier. Evernote is heavier, both in interface and syncing ti...
CintaNotes out of beta 11/6/2011
Ergonomics aside, I'm not clear on why this would be better than Evernote as part of a workflow.
Atlantis Word Processor 50% off - 6 hours left 11/6/2011
http://www.bitsdujour.com/software/atlantis-word-processor/saf=509838/ I found this software on this forum, basically a cool word processor that's better than MS Word in many ways, for power users
Asana is out - free collaborative task manager 11/4/2011

Thoughts about forum protocol 11/4/2011
The only minor frustration I have is with people who often make short posts but never long ones. It's difficult to determine whether they have things to say that I'm interested in reading or not, beca...
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
Cool man, take your time, no hurry. Sorry Dana, I didn't realize you were only talking about the program launching aspect.
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
Lol Fredy, the language and expertise barrier is driving me nuts. I see vast amounts of concepts flying by without being able to fully grasp them. If you want to Skype, I'd love to hear your opinion...
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
Well, I have to disagree with Dana. After reading Fredy's latest posts, I think I understand what he's asking for, and he's right: it doesn't exist. Cyborganize is sort of a patchwork attempt to cre...
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
You'll forgive me if I respond to your thesis on the limits of simultaneous cognition: 3-4 vs 7-8, because I find the topic fascinating. First of all, I agree with pretty much all your insights. We ...
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
Lol Fredy, I love you man. You're more crazy about this than I am... and that's hard to do. You really, really need to check out Carsten Dominic's work. I couldn't make out everything you were sayin...
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
By the way Fredy, it really sounds like you're trying to create an Emacs Org-mode setup. It can search within word docs, across your whole computer, etc. You can embed tags in all your .org files ...
Not-Standardized Project Management : IQTELL, Directory Opus, etc. 11/2/2011
I don't have any problem with programs using IQ or intelligence related buzzwords. In my view, IQ is like the bore of the artillery an army has. Whereas the productivity system is like the logisti...

"I?ve never really understood the point of Tiddlywiki? anything it can do would probably be best just left in Org-mode, and if one needs a full-blown wiki, why not go with a full-blown wiki?" TiddlyW...
Mourning the passing of Pocketthinker 10/26/2011
The nice thing about Emacs Org-mode is there's never a limit to the value you can get out of investing more time into learning it. The reward/learning curve goes flat on most programs, and you're le...
notetaking blog 10/26/2011
It really depends on what you like, JIm. Just shotgun all the terms you're interested, then prune the losers, and scan for occasional gems. It's worthwhile.
Mourning the passing of Pocketthinker 10/25/2011
Yes indeed it does: http://orgmode.org/manual/The-spreadsheet.html Personally I use the tables feature only for exporting clocked work data. I've accepted that right now nobody who doesn't already ...
Mourning the passing of Pocketthinker 10/25/2011
True that. Still, I'm surprised there isn't at least one other person. I'm pretty sure Xah Lee's distro takes care of most of the keybind problem. I should beef up my Emacs tutorial section. Aha, bu...

"As a single-pane outliner, Grandview was unique in my experience. Each heading (note or item, whatever you wish to call it) could have a full wordprocessing document associated with it. Here is how i...

Reflexive outlining with several outliners 10/24/2011
Actually, Supermemo does an interesting job of thinking for you via its cloze deletion process of continually refining text down into key memory hooks. It's an iterative process that improves analysis...
