When you launch Noteplan, a message will pop up telling you of an update (no extra cost). Click on it, and you will get Noteplan 2 downloaded to your Mac.
It's not quite on the App Store yet. If you go to the App Store, Noteplan will have a little cloud icon. Install it, and it will go through its routine, but the cloud icon will go back to a cloud icon.

That's he release candidate, likely identical to Noteplan 2. However, when the final v2 is going to be released, the upgrade is 9.99$

I believe that there will be a 20% discount for about 24 or 48 hours... or so I infered from an email from Eduard.

I just realised there is a different behaviour depending on whether or not you had the beta installed in between, at least if the v1 was the MAS version. On one machine I did, which resulted in Noteplan not opening after the latest update. The previous one offered the update for 9.99$, the current (MAS version required a complete deletion and reinstall, upon which I am seeing the behaviour the OP reported. Version 2 installs and no announcement of cost is to be seen.
A bit confusing perhaps and I am not sure if that is all, I'll simply wait and see how it pans out.
Noteplan is nice and polished and fulfils its purpose well enough, nevertheless I am considering going back to orgmode.

I'm running the new version without any problems, although the upgrade facility is clearly broken (Eduard apologised for that and says it'll appear in the next update).
It's brilliant. That's the only word for it. One of the neatest uses of a mixed note-taking/calendar app I've ever seen. Ideal for bullet journaling, GTD or any other systematic task management approach you can think of.
And it does need some thought. To make the most of the tight integration of Notes and Calendar, you need to think carefully about how you want to handle projects and tasks – exactly where you're going to put them and so on. There are so many different ways of handling "today" and "tomorrow" it's almost funny. The Letterspace-like (requiescat in pace, formerly one of my favourite Markdown editors) list of mentions and tags is also profoundly helpful.
In short, it's a whole different app! I'm taking a step-by-step approach to reincorporating it into my task management workflow.
Cheers!

Hi, all,
Just to let everyone know. There's a bug in the version that you get today through the app store which fails to give you the option to pay for the upgrade. Eduard told me they have submitted a corrected version and it should be up on the app store today or tomorrow. The discounted upgrade pricing will be extended.

I've run into an issue with it. After not being able to upgrade to it (versus buying it), I deleted the program completely with Mac Cleaner, then tried to reinstall it from AppStore. It goes into perpetual installing (an incomplete circle). When I click on the circle, it gives me a cloud again. If I click the cloud again, it goes into perpetual install.

Sorry to hear the problems others have had. The update to v2 was already on offer in the updates section of the Mac App Store and installed without issues. No update yet for iOS on offer in the iOS App Store.

This morning, my system updated to the "fixed" upgrade-bearing version of NotePlan 2.0 and asked me if I wanted to upgrade. So I did (price is very reasonable). And it's working fine.

That is a nice video by Stephen. I also watched his other video on how to use NotePlan as a Bullet Journal.
I was trying not to CRIMP but couldn't resist NotePlan, especially when I found out everything was stored in plain text.
After using for about a week I am really enjoying it's unique approach. I have some issues with figuring out how to use it properly with the notes and scheduling, but it is really a nice little program.

Yes, it's a very nice app. I've been cautiously using it for task management for the last week or so.
My findings:
- it's very stable and reliable
- the functions involving interaction between Calendar and Notes are consistent, and work fast and well (including sync via iCloud)
- you can access the NotePlan folder in iCloud, meaning you can edit NotePlan notes/to-dos in the Markdown editor of your choice (should you so wish!)
- projects are best handled in Notes, with tags to filter them; any to-dos then appear in the upper part of the Calendar page
- it's easy to roll over projects in Notes, because there's a "reschedule all tasks" function in Notes as well as in Calendar - nice touch!
- one-off to-dos are best inserted in Calendar days
- integration with Apple Calendar, Reminders is excellent
- you can "archive" completed tasks (which means they're shunted down to the bottom of the Note/Calendar page; this is a nice touch)
I've made a number of suggestions to the very amiable developer, who is extremely responsive.
The only thing I'm still a little doubtful about is how well NotePlan will handle a LOT of data. It seems to me that the Notes function could do with further refinement (notably folders, perhaps). And I'm not quite sure why Calendar supports both tags (hashtags) and mentions (at-tags), but Notes doesn't (hashtags only).
However, I'm on the verge of committing to NotePlan as my main task manager. I'd never have considered doing that with V1, but V2 is a whole different ball game.
The fact that it's still non-subscription (and that it offers upgrades!) is definitely contributing to my enthusiasm!
Cheers!

I am really enjoying this app. I have bought it on iOS and enjoy it via Setapp on my Mac.
I’ve used OmniFocus forever, and that is where I will maintain my major work projects. For the everyday ‘small rock’ stuff though, NotePlan is doing a great job. In addition, I am using it as my ‘daily log’. I had been using OmniOutliner for this, but NotePlan’s day-per-note construct and it’s ability to use Markdown has won me over.
It still has some rough edges, but I have confidence that the developer is aware and working on them. A few annoyances are not auto-capitalising the beginning of tasks on iOS, and I would like it to do better with natural language interpretation.
Overall though, the app seems to understand what it is, and is not trying to do too much.
I guess the best measure is that all the tasks I put into it, get done. Can’t ask for more than that from a task manager.

I have also, hesitantly, switched to NotePlan for all of my tasks. So far it is pretty good, with some small annoyances that I have confidence will be addressed. I had sent a list of suggestions to the developer, but have not heard back yet.
I am also worried about having so much data in the program and keeping it manageable.
The biggest question for me is how to handle where the data and scheduling for projects are stored. If I have a project note and a task is scheduled from the project, what is the best way to reschedule that task? The best way for future reference seems to be go back to the project and reschedule it. But the easiest way is to reschedule that task in the calendar view.
I may be overthinking this or unaware of some features in the program. But if I look at my project note, the scheduled date may have been moved several times from what is recorded. Using tags might help.
Otherwise an excellent program that I am enjoying. Pretty simple, yet powerful and with a lot of ways to utilize it.

If I understand your question properly, I don't believe a task that is created and scheduled in a project note can be rescheduled in the calendar. It can be marked as completed, but otherwise it appears uneditable in the calendar note.

That is some of the confusion that I have gone through in using NotePlan. I played around with the preferences and probably do not fully understand them at this time.
The preference for "Only add date when scheduling in notes" seems to do what you say when checked. But I unchecked it because I found it difficult to reschedule the tasks for each day. I had a number of tasks under each "Project" that needed to be rescheduled. But I had to go back to the Note that held the tasks and then try to find each of them to reschedule. Without the ability to sort tasks by scheduled date, it became difficult to find them quickly (I made a request for that option).
Is there an easier way that I might be missing?
It seems we need someone to do a comprehensive set of videos on using NotePlan ;)

I put a note into it this morning, and it seemed to show up (the first word) on my calendar view for today. I also entered a note after that. This afternoon, the first words showed up in the calendar view, but I could not retrieve note #1. After clicking several times on the left side and then the right side (note side), the first note was gone. It then vanished from the calendar view as well. Very distressing in that the note that disappeared had the contact information for a student I needed to call this afternoon.

Ah, I see what you're saying. I didn't realize how different that one preference selection has on the action of the tasks. So, basically, deselecting "Only add date when scheduling in notes" makes the following behavior:
When you write a task in a general (project) note, then set a date for it, Noteplan forwards a copy of the task onto the calendar note you chose with a wiki link back to the general note. You can now edit the task in the calendar note, including rescheduling it. BUT, the reschedule does not appear in the original notation in the general note. That is confusing. I bet that is not intentional. I'll email Eduard and see what he says.

Is there any chance that you had inadvertently entered a search term? I did this once, and had a panic, but when I cleared the search box all was restored to normalcy.

So some further testing shows something I should have realized earlier: Changing due dates copies the task to a new calendar date, but any edits you make to one version are not reflected in any of the other iterations of the task. Clearly, these are not "clones" of each other, which reflect changes made in one across all versions.
It seems to me that the best way to deal with this is to select the preference "Only add date when scheduling in notes", and edit your project-related tasks in the project note. That way you'll always see the up-to-date version of the task.
Does that make sense?

I agree Stephen. I got rid of the duplicates for each day and converted everything over using the "Only Add Dates When Scheduling" option. It was surprisingly easy to change scheduled dates. I just selected multiple tasks and hit D twice and everything went back to regular tasks with no scheduled date.
The way I would like to see it work would be the ability to reschedule tasks from the calendar view when the original task exists in a note, and have it reflected back to the note. That would solve everything for me.
As for finding the scheduled tasks inside of the notes, when I "Archive Processed Tasks" and it places it under "Scheduled" it makes it much easier.
One nice thing I discovered is that when you have subheadings inside of a note, and then schedule a task from that note, it places the task under the subheading in the calendar view along with the name of the note on the right hand side. A very nice touch, and it allows me to break up tasks inside of a note.
I am still getting used to using the program, but still enjoying it.

That was supposed to say:
"I just selected multiple tasks and hit Cmd-D twice and everything went back to regular tasks with no scheduled date."
I placed the word Cmd in brackets in the original post and it must have taken it as some type of markup.

That may be the problem. We use Filemaker Pro at the college for making contracts, and when someone complains to me that the program isn't saving records, they are usually filling out the form from the "Find" screen. If Noteplan has a manual, I would like to peruse it. I find the small screened overview videos to be difficult to learn from.
