tldr: Everdo is awesome: https://everdo.net
So I've been in the middle of a personal information overhaul and working through Tiago Forte's truly fantastic Building A Second Brain course (https://www.buildingasecondbrain.com/ That probably deserves a post on it's own (serious knowledge workers out there might find the investment worth it), but I'll wait until I'm further along in it.
The one step thing I was struggling with was picking an app to manage my tasks. I'd mostly been just managing separate lists in dynalist, but this was proving to be untenable and mentally quite "messy".
I've really struggled to find a good full featured GTD app on windows. Apple users have Things and OmniFocus, but on windows the pickings are much slimmer (and I really just don't like Todoist). I was about to settle on just using org-mode and accepting that I'll spend hours fiddling with it, but then I came across Everdo.
I've tried almost every task manager out there available on windows and I've instantly fallen in love. We'll see how I feel after I put it through it's paces, it's definitely worth a look.
Top Features
- Single purchase license
- Rapidly being developed
- Truly excellent "areas" feature for sorting your project views
- Full support of GTD methodology
- Strong keyboard shortcuts across the whole app
- Very good performance on my computer - combined with the shortcuts it feels like an app maximized for speed
- Can add due dates & metadata to projects themselves - something I LOVE but most task managers don't allow
- Has a place for light notes
Potential Cons
- Only has network sync currently
- Android app is still in beta
- iOS app next year
Here's the development roadmap: https://forum.everdo.net/t/everdo-development-roadmap-and-backlog/49

Are you worried that the list of improvements is now nine months old? Are we sure that development is continuing?

Did you look at the roadmap?

I signed up for the beta program about a year ago. It's a nice app in many ways, but:
- No IOS app yet
- No encrypted sync yet
- Odd (to my eyes) UI on the Mac
- Limited import/export - I want my notes repository to have a *lot* of flexibility in how I export and use the notes
I like the fact that it's non-subscription for the Pro level (free level has decent features). It's similar in some ways to Agenda - attempting to combine tasks and note management in one app. I'm not sure it'll earn a permanent place in my workflow yet - I'll be able to decide when IOS and sync are in place. At present, it's an interesting curiosity for me.
But - if you're only concerned with desktop and you use different platforms, it could be helpful.

Yes, but I didn't quite get how it was laid out. I thought the list of Desktop improvements was from December of last year. I see now that it was from 12 days ago.

Looks like another "metoo" todo list application done while learning the electron framework. Half a gigabyte of RAM required just for the simplest kind of app?
This kind of non inspired interfaces keeps me really interested in the Storyline Server Ecco Pro project to revive a good well working application with an oldtimer GUI.

I agree with you. I came to Everdo when it was in beta, back in November 2017. At that time I was running OmniFocus in a virtual machine on Windows and well....that was just insane.
Everdo is a bit like an offline, private version of NirvanaHQ. The interface and shortcuts are heavily "inspired" by it.
It's very versatile and contains most, if not all, of the functions you need in "beyond to do list" task management. I can really recommend it.
My own use came to a halt when I read about someone's kanban-ish setup in TheBrain http://forums.thebrain.com/post/my-megabrain-thought-types-9678341?pid=1303569864 I experimented with that setup from March-June and then made the switch.
Would I require a more traditional task/project management setup, it most certainly will be Everdo again
