So I tried to post earlier about which of the new knowledge organizers people recommend, with an emphasis on:
- Linking all types of data, ie. email, contacts, meetings, tasks, notes, knowledge, etc.
- Runs locally on Windows
After some investigation, I have narrowed it down to Obsidian and Heptabase. Heptabase looks amazing and has astonishing views and functionality, but appears to be more for note-type records and knowledge. Obsidian has less flash but seems to integrate many different type of data items, which is a strong plus.
So I’m leaning toward Obsidian. Any thoughts or comparisons on the two?

So my earlier post was pending, hence the near double post.
I’ve decided Obsidian is the choice, so in the other post we can continue with any relevant discussion!

Not trying to talk anyone out of Obsidian and into Heptabase, but I do want to mention that Heptabase has been getting lots of useful new features, like this one:
For the record, I have not fully committed to Heptabase, but I’m slowly sliding into doing so—I think.

Alan Chan’s Heptabase home on Medium has a comprehensive recap of Heptabase updates in 2022. Looks like it’s been improved a lot more than I realized.
