I've just received an amiable e-mail from the MyInfo developer, as follows:
Hi William,
Recently, I was browsing my collection of personal information management apps. I've gathered it through the years, starting back in 1997. I am looking there occasionally for inspiration and sometimes just out of nostalgia.
But this time it felt different. It took me some time to understand why it felt that way. Then it dawned on me and shocked me a little... Most of the apps in the list are no longer "alive". I realized that MyInfo is one of the very few PIM applications that have survived since the last Millennium. Yes, MyInfo has existed for more than 23 years now!
That thrilled me and at the same time scared me a bit. It shows that information management software is a fragile industry. But it also shows how MyInfo is a solid landmark in an ever-changing information management landscape. I am proud that MyInfo survived so many years and I believe that with your loyal support it will continue to thrive!
But let's get back to the present.
MyInfo 7 was a huge success, serving in the same way both existing and new users. It made MyInfo a faster, safer, and more flexible product than ever.
It was followed by three feature updates that added great new possibilities like improved search, backlinks, multi-window support, native MS Word support, and a brand-new web-clipper.
In the last few months, we've worked hard to give you something even better. Fixing the few annoyances and bringing you the latest in usability and technology, we've created our latest iteration: MyInfo 8.
Very soon I will tell you more about it: how it's better than MyInfo 7, how and when you can get it.
Yours truly,
Petko Georgiev
Those still running on Windows may wish to follow this up! I'd love to, but there are already so many Shiny Mac Apps that do more or less the same thing...

Trust me (or don't), once you get your hands on Tana you'll not want apps like MyInfo and others in that category.

I can't see why they still won't be a place for such a robust and useful program as MyInfo. Petko has always been very responsive and some of us might just preferred a robust, well-supported, program to the latest bells-and-whistles.

I agree, Geoffrey. MyInfo is, as you say, a "robust" and worthy program. I also got the post from MI developer Petko announcing version 8. If it is possible, Petko could expand the use value and potential market for MI by having a web app version.

I tend to agree: Tana is frightfully cool, but it's not offline (yet – it may yet emerge as an app, of course). I'm one of those reactionary people who don't entrust anything of real importance solely to an online service. Hence my current love fest with Obsidian...

I’ve looked into Myinfo many times, and I’m sure i would be happy using it in my pc. But in 2023, an app like this without a mobile counterpart, even it is read only, is a no go.
The one who have been using it for a long time, my be used to it. But start afresh knowing this limitation, is hard to justify.

Yes, I agree it's an increasingly important consideration. On Mac, we've got lots of options (e.g. Notebooks, Keep It, UpNote... – mind you, the latter runs on Windows, too!), but there are some frustrating gaps as well (Curio, anyone? Although Curiota is a very nice stopgap measure). DEVONthink does allow you to at least read stuff on a mobile device – and so does super-powerful search tool FoxTrot (you can sync the indices with your mobile device, and even save the full files if you want to, effectively turning FoxTrot into a data manager).
In the world of Windows, however, it's an irritating problem, although I guess you've always got the Big B*ggers like OneNote to fall back on. Ah, and I was an early adopter of Windows Mobile...
Cheers,
Bill

I am a daily, heavy, user of MyInfo for my business primarily.
It works. It is flexible. It is supported.
I do not need a web app, and I hope MyInfo does not bother with one. It will suck time away from the core development that is MyInfo.
If you do "need" a web app PIM, then MyInfo is not for you.

Well, if you say you can use read-only, there is an option to export as a web site. Easily readable in a browser. Attachments are part of the export.

MyInfo 8 was released on schedule on 30 March, has some useful new features, and continues the long line of development.
I've tried many alternatives over the years but always seem to come back to MyInfo.
Kind regards,

I know about (early installments of) MI 6, and within just some minutes, and with just some attributes, and some items, I systematically "succeeded" in CRASHING that (v.5, and early v.6) crap; that being said, the developer has, in-between (i.e. between 6 and 7), changed the back-upping db, from somewhat-I'-dont-know, to SQLite, I suppose. Thus:
Your, "I’ve tried many alternatives over the years but always seem to come back to MyInfo.", is NOT to be taken seriously, since, some years ago, MI had NOT (already?) been reliable - proof on file if ever the need.

You are right, except for the fact that you don't post anything new here, since I here said, years ago, that even for a mere 1,000, 1,200 bucks, you were "now" able to buy a i7 Windows notebook weighting just about 1,000, , 1,200 grams, and whatever "mobility" beyond that would you strive at, lest giving away allegedly all your data to google-n-similar? As for your MI's business use: that had even been possible with Mi's previous versions (i.e. 5, and then early 6...) IF you refrained from using its "attributes" - if then, I prefer Ultra Recall, that's just me indeed...

Just be happy with your alleged subscriptions, with or without giving away all your data - for what's worth then: what's your respective data worth? well... - and leave serious PIM users alone.
IV
Fact is, in previous versions (i.e. v. 5 and early v. 6, again that is), and in theor, MI's attribute M had been MUCH better than, e.g., UR's attribute M: no doubt about that, insofar, but then, as said, if, in those, previous, MI versions, you really tried to take some benefit of "attributes": oh my: WHO then wants an ever-crashing tool, after Microsoft Windows 2000, right?
V
And this is probably the foremost info anybody maintaining their "stuff" into some current "outliner" / "PIM" could ever get: The web abounds of remarks that Ultra Recall be NOT the
=====ideal "note taking" app=====
, AND those people then say, "it's not really responsive" - without anybody of those jerks ever relating the facts... and yes, in-between UR's commands for "create new sib" or "create new sub", and then, your being able to then type the new item's title, there's a delay, of between 1 and almost even 2 seconds - I don't know, not having the technical means at hand to measure the delay - on my professional HDD, whilst your delay might be somewhat lesser indeed if you allow UR to write onto your SDD that is; whatever:
Fact is, "factory" (sic!) UR, and even on this April 5, 2023, is NOT the ideal "note taking app", since there is a delay between your wanting to JOT DOWN your thought, and then, the end of the waiting time that "factory" applic imposes onto you, in order to JOT DOWN your thought, but then, I don't know about "competiting" applics... whatever:
With just TWO lines of additional, external, "scripting" code, that delay between your thinking, and then your JOTTING DOWN your "thoughts", is reduced to ZERO...
but then, please excuse me for NOT sharing those mere two lines of external code, since, put it simply, I simply don't think the quality of today's co-"contributors" of this forum need immediate, or then ever, JOTTING DOWN, and indeed, almost all of you, alleged "contributors", here should probably THINK TWICE before uttering their irrelevant (i.e. devoid of any information) blalabla:
Thus, in most real life's so-called "use cases", that "factory UR"'s (sib, or sub) item delay creation's waiting time should be regarded as even utterly beneficial to most people utterances over here...
whilst, indeed, just 2 lines of external code with do away with that delay, an'then, Ultra Recall will also be
THE PERFECT NOTE-TAKING APP,
whilst not for people who just do in low-brow, or'then, in as-low-brow, invective.

I couldn't care less if my simple statement of fact is taken seriously or not. I've never had MyInfo crash but then I've only been using it for a dozen years.
On the other hand, I still use Blackwell's "Idealist" (version 3, 1995) on a daily basis and, in 28 years it has never crashed nor lost data and has run happily under every version of Windows up to and including 11.

It is mentioned in the manual; no radical changes as in v.7, but still a good upgrade:

I received a number of e-mails concerning earlybird offers for MI 8.0 from Petko. The following e-mail is the most recent.
Hi Simon,
I am thrilled to announce that MyInfo 8 Upgrade will be available to you for purchase and immediate download on 10th April!
Users who pre-ordered are already enjoying their early-access and have started using it. Many of them are raving about its new features and improvements. We can't wait for all of you to experience them too.
With MyInfo 8, you can expect the brand-new dark mode, more powerful tags, new document navigation and formatting tools, improved backup, and much more. I believe that these new features will make your experience with MyInfo even more productive and enjoyable.
Stay tuned for more information, and thank you for being a loyal MyInfo user.
