I am wondering if anyone in this forum has experience with the idea & thought collecting app Napkin. I’ve played around with it a little and I can’t tell if it is bloody genius, or just a frivolous waste of time. Like so many of the tools we discuss the answer to that question is likely in the hands of the user. That is, make of it what you put into it.
What intrigues me is how it automatically surfaces related notes, and how it kind of automates review of recent notes. Not only that, you can build “outlines” from your notes.
What is less convincing to me is that it doesn’t capture any information about where you clipped a note from on the web, which should be easy to do. Plus they recommend only using it with Chrome or Brave.
It is still in beta, so there is a lot of room for improvement.
Anyway, Napkin does have an interesting approach to note-taking. One worth looking at if you’re curious about this kind of thing… and I know you all are!

Cost: $10 per month to join the beta.

It seems that way from their website, but I’ve played around with Napkin without paying for it.

Is it similar in nature to Mem? I don’t use Mem consistently, but I have found it very helpful when I want to jot something down and easily find it later.

I would say Mem and Napkin are very different… certainly in what I think they can do for you.
To explain, Mem can be your go to notes taker for any kind of information, including tasks and events. It can be a catch all, a way to run, if not your life, your work.
Napkin, on the other hand, is primarily for collecting ideas that you might use in a larger project. You wouldn’t, I don’t think, put tasks or appointments in Napkin (which isn’t to say that is impossible).
Honestly, it seems to me that Napkin is kind of superfluous for someone with an established note-taking system. But for someone looking to collect ideas for specific projects, it could be a nice addition. However, I was wondering what others thought about it.
