Logseq just released a new version today that adds a PDF reading/annotation workflow. There’s an example video here if anyone is interested: https://logseq.github.io/assets/2021-08-06_21.46.20_1628257857150_0.gif
I’m extremely impressed with this. Although simple, it’s one of the most practical annotation workflows I’ve seen. (It *is* possible to set up an org-mode workflow like this—although I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone set up org-mode with the same region selection feature—but setting up org-mode that way is more involved than most users can handle.)

Logseq keeps getting better and better with each release. They say that this (along with spaced repetition flashcards which they added in the last release) are the last major new features they plan to add for a while - focusing now on stability and speed. While I recommend backing up regularly, I already find Logseq stable and fast enough to be my main note taking / outlining / task management / scheduling / journaling /etc. app… It is pretty close to being everything I wanted from Todoist / Dynalist / Roam / Obsidian. I really like the community as well. The developers are great.

Your comments are very similar to my thoughts about it. I’m a fan of both Roam and org-mode, but I’ve never had the time to dig into org-roam or org-brain and combine all the little bits into one system that has the advantages of both, although there are definitely people who’ve done it. In a relatively short time Logseq has trotted into the room with a prebuilt, well-thought out system that largely does that, with batteries included, with the bonus that everything is plain text behind the scenes and you’re not locked into it. I’m going to give it a serious go.

That annotation workflow is really impressive! Is there a way to manage citations (e.g. with Zotero) in Logseq?

Yes, Zotero integration was added two releases ago. I don’t use Zotero so I can’t comment on how good it is.
