Hmmm... Has anybody noticed that the link at the beginning of this thread now goes to
the Kinook Roadmap page with a date of 10/30/08 --- with no mention of suspending
development. In fact I didn't seem to see anyplace on the forums that discusses that
suspension.

Just wondering.

I'd say the most likely explanation is the folks at Kinook realized acknowledging that development would be discontinued would adversely affect sales and decided it was smarter not to announce that to the world. If they believe their product is mature, then they have no real obligation to tell new customers that it will not be improved any time soon... although leaving the roadmap up implies otherwise and probably should be removed if my speculations are accurate.

Pierre just put up the 2nd prelease version of InfoQube, which has a preliminary version of a calendar. It can handle appointments, recurrences and limited categories, for now.

It's worth a look - I've been testing it pretty hard and it meets many of my needs.

What a bad surprise!
The longer I used UR the more I liked it.

But:
It's not over now. The current version is stable and has enough features for the daily work. Ths support is still alive and even bug fixes are will be available.

Optional tools:
- PersonalBrain v4.5
- Zoot 5.2
- SQLNotes (or InfoQube)

I can highly recommend PersonalBrain. For me, it's like coming back home. See my tool jouney:
PersonalBrain v1.73 (year: 1999) -> ADM (2001)-> InfoSelect (2002)-> ADM (2003)-> UR (2006) -> PersonalBrain v4.5 (2008)

Where will be be in 2017?

I got the same feeling.

IMHO they mean it with the roadmap, but new releases might be much less frequent now...

Just guesses, though.

I think you're dreaming. Kinook announced that further development would cease, period.

Sadly, I take them @ their word.

Then they removed that statement (probably for the reasons suggested here) & replaced it w some mealy-mouthed, double speak & they won't clarify its ambiguity-- see thread "What's keeping you Busy?" on UR forum / suggestions.

Obviously, they have a right to do as they wish but I think it's less than honorable to handle these matters as it currently stands.

Perhaps my thread starter here gives more cluses about UltraRecall. http://www.kinook.com/Forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3848 The administrators final reply to a pressing question is noticeably 'lame' with no definition or committment. Suggests that rhumors might be true.

The fact that development of UR has come to a standstill shouldn't necessarily deter you from using it, as long as it has the features that you want. UR is a pretty mature product, as many on this forum have already attested. What would make me cautious is the way they treated Jan. That seems absurd, and really unprofessional.

As to letting a product come to rest at a certain point in development, that seems reasonable to me, as long as I was certain that the developer was going to stay in business and was ready to offer service... including the correction of any bugs that may crop up. Included in this area of "service" is also the promise of making the application workable in the next operating system update, whenever that may be.

1. Richard's last posting is MISSING.

2. Steve Z is right, IF the info one is collecting is for short-term use. But, if not, then, I believe, my earlier posting on the need for batch export or the
use of something that permits standard file formats applies.

I agree. Fortunately, you have nothing to fear in this regard from UR; it has excellent batch export facilities (so-called recursive export).

That said, I have began to be rather uncomfortable myself by Kinook's vaguespeak. Sometimes, it's better to stand back and just leave the product speak for itself.

I frankly think the answer kinook provided is dishonest, not just lame, and I'm now 2 for 2, counting ADM. ;)

I presented my disillusionment with kinook in the third post in this thread: http://www.outlinersoftware.com/topics/viewt/276

Oh my, Kinook has punished me again by locking me out of their forum. Spank, spank.

Some poor un-suspecting soul spent the time time posting a suggestion on their forum about how to improve the program & I responded with the following:

"Didn't you get the msg? Ultra Recall is not being developed further. Only bugs are being addressed."

I'm a bad boy. Kinook doesn't like the truth even tho I'm only repeating what s/he posted on their forum.

Never thought I'd say it SRD: you were right on both counts.

I appreciate you hard core types telling us casual observers what's going on. I don't tune into Kinook forums that often and I missed the message that's apparently now been deleted that they're stopping development of UR. Fortunately the discussion here reveals to me what's going on...thx for the open discussion.
