Very basic.

I have a memory that this new application has a long and extensive intellectual parentage that has been the subject of discussion previously in this forum (to which its co-developer Christian contributed).

That's not to deny that it is very basic, but I suspect that its developers would make a virtue of its simplicity.

Chrisitan put into the first release about a third of the items on their Version 1 feature list

I think there could be better marketing and consumer education. It wasn't until I read Gabe Weatherhead's explanation of the use case for The Archive that it began to click.

I've been following that site and their posts have given me a lot of insight into note-taking philosophy. Was pretty excited to test drive their new baby. Then 'Mac-only'. Don't know how I missed that leading up to the release! Mac-island has quite the advantage with PKM software.

Nvalt still works fine for me. Is there an advantage I'm missing?

At the moment, from a feature comparison point of view, The Archive will give you saved searches, Markdown highlighting, & clickable hashtags. And a future :)

Thanks for pointing this out. If you find the time to email me about this in detail, that'd be greatly helpful!

Yes, the saved searches feature is nice. Otherwise (the newly Markdown-enabled) Simplenote is the most obvious direct competitor.
But it's a good start.

Have just noticed - belatedly - that Steve Z. has written a helpful and generally positive review of the application here: https://welcometosherwood.wordpress.com

good to know this is basically the same as Simplenote
someone else had linked one 'light/barebone' review
would be good if there was a summary of the 'note-taking philosophy' - not sure what parts i'd agree or disagree with tho

seems basic at this stage -- https://welcometosherwood.wordpress.com/2018/03/24/the-archive-a-new-slip-box-for-your-notes/
much clutter
guess the main post had already mentioned that -- 'Very basic.'
doesnt seem to be adding any unique value from what is already out there
