I recently posted a couple of Kanban boards, My Personal Kanban which can work locally or from Google Gmail free cloud and is private to you only or even a version to set up a local server. Plus a little Windows Portable Kanban. The link is at bottom of this post. Here is another two which are Free and Open Source. I have not had time to test either, the first seems more complex with support for images and more and the second more text based and smaller app. I might try these two this weekend. Numbered after last 2:

I have tested hundreds of software for all Windows/Mac/Linux/Android. Most of which are not mentioned on this as the search box here often tells me. About fifty of them are used from time to time by me. Most of these best ones are commercial, and some free or even open source. I do not commit or invest my time with monthly price plan products. I have graded all the hundreds of software I have tested for my own records and what usage they have. These are across various types of softwares for outlining, note taking, mind maps, boards etc etc. The reason I say the above is to point out there are lots of tools out there not mentioned in this forum, in case anyone thought otherwise. I recommend seeking out new tools. I have optimized my choice lists of tools for various job types and will not have time this coming busy year to do more seeking/testing and am basically happy anyway. If you have not found what you need, it might be out there. Here is the other 2 Kanbans I posted recently, the first one is browser based and is good, the second is fun.

As i said "from time to time" they are used "across different types of software" some of which types I listed. I also use multi operating systems as I code too and also use code editors and IDEs for programming, not to mention other Adobe graphics packages I've used in commercial projects over the years. You have less than 50 software installed on your computers, phones, tablets Mein Fuhrer? I thought so.

I don't understand your intention, but please realize that this reference is offensive and crosses lines for most people.

If you cannot post respectfully, without offense, then find another place to vent. I am deeply offended by these words.

He started an interrogation with insulting personal tone and content which is also off topic, I asked him if his own questions are true of himself as is in most people? I realize the popularity of racism is on the rise in certain areas and countries and is accepted as norm these days, unfortunately. That is truly offensive and crosses the line for many of us. If that is what you are referring to Jon? Not by me, I'm referring to his personally insulting off topic interrogation techniques. If you misunderstood so, please understand some of us will never accept any kind of racism, sexism, homophobia or other prejudices. Even if certain areas do so now and even vote them into power with no shame. So no, it is all in your own mind.

Washere.
I was mistaken. I thought you used 50 different kanban tools. And that seemed quite a lot to me.
And I won't comment on your putting me on a level with the postcard painter from Braunau.

After reading your reply to Jon (which you must have written just as I wrote my first reply to you): I am sorry that you found my interest insulting. It was not meant that way - but obviously came across as an insult.
I still don't get what my questions have to do with racism. And why they prompted you to call me Fuhrer. Is there something personal between us that I do not know of?

Franz,
No, I was answering Jon. I've had several German close friends since I was a kid all these years, if that's what he meant. I don't know your nationality nor care. Despite the news, in our discussions we don't see a major racism threat from Germany, unlike other recently democratic European countries. The humour reference was referring to your style of line of questioning, I'm a big fan of Mel Brooks works.
Back to topic, it seems you didn't read my post you referenced. I listed some of the types of software spanning the fifty. It was not just referring to Cards/Kanban as I said if you'd read it properly. Of the fifty or so, I often use about fifteen across devices a lot. In the card genre type of software, the best by far and used often by me is TreeSheets which beats all the other cards boards.

OK. Seems we have different kinds of humour. Though I do like some of Mel Brooks' works.
Yes, as I said: I mis-read your post. That's why I asked these questions.
And: Yes, back to topic.

I meant what I said. Regardless of context, the reference is offensive. We discuss writing, note taking, outlining, and other forms of software (and techniques) in this forum. Perhaps others disagree, but I feel that there is no place for this type of reference here (or anywhere, but I am addressing this group). I understand that it may have been written with humor, but you have a wide audience who come from diverse backgrounds.
I have been through Europe many times. Eastern Europe too. I have seen swastikas in the countryside in many of these places (and occasionally in the urban areas). That says a lot.
Where I come from, appealing to relationships one has ("A couple of my friends are black/German/Jewish") as proof of not possessing bias is regarded as just the opposite.

One of the first things taught to journalists is lookout for those who truncate quotes. Old prejudiced propaganda tactic.

Yeah, anti-Semitism isn't funny.
But back ON topic. This thread made me go back and look at Trello. Maybe it's me, but it looks like a hell of a tool these days. The UI is minimal, clean, and fast. Reordering is a breeze. A click flips the card and gives me a nice little palette for more granular information. For the kind of work I find myself doing these days, it's pretty good.
So what's the advantage of these tools presented here? Local storage (so privacy)?

I don't know if it was mentioned earlier, but airtable's browser version has a nice kanban interface. Right now it still doesn't work on the phone, but I think they might be working on it...

So the response to my first question (why isn't Trello enough) comes down to the need for more sophisticated options for more complex situations. (Although I do like that Trello has iOS and Android apps, and I gather some of the others do not.)
The Airtable/Kanban combination was a revelation. My team does use Airtable for many things, and it hadn't occurred to me to use existing data in another view. For more about this feature, https://support.airtable.com/hc/en-us/articles/229848887-Guide-to-kanban-view
Once again, a win for this forum!
