I've also just received a "special" (?) offer for a Mindjet perpetual license for GBP238.80

Can you clarify what 'perpetual' license means in this case? My impression from Mindjet's shop http://www.mindjet.com/uk/shop/ is that they do not 'sell' the product in the way they used to, but only provide subscription-based access. The price you mention is quite close to the normal yearly subscription.

I've seen other tools being sold both as 'classic' software and as a subscription based service, e.g. XMind http://www.xmind.net/pricing/ In this case however, the purchased license does not entitle one to updates.

Here are some more details of the deal (it seems it's not just the UK):

Just came across this article on mind mappers. I'm sure MindManager offers some special extra features (Gantt chart sounds good), but the price difference is pretty big if you compare it to Freeplane...

Actually I just got another email from them in which they're calling them "the new Mindjet MindManager Windows and Mac desktop products" and the "the latest version of MindManager," so I'm presuming this is a new product then?

Looks like Celtx desktop (paid version) has some interesting new features (though haven't tried them yet). Actually "Index cards with list view" is also available in the free version.

Writer's Pack Add-On:

Index cards with timeline and plot view
Paper card and corkboard index card theme
Distraction-free full screen writing
Personalise your text and background colours
Writing Session Timer
Writing progress reports

Unfortunately it looks like it's not possible to trial the paid version, while I find the implementation of index cards in the free version not all that impressive.

I've used Celtx on and off for a while, and my son - a budding film director - swears by it, because it's optimised for people like him.

But as a writer, I much prefer Scrivener. Or MyInfo, or Smereka TreeProjects.

Once Scrivener has been transported to iOS (currently in process), my life will be complete. Well, of course it won't, otherwise I wouldn't be a CRIMPer, but I can dream...

Although whenever I checked out Celtx in the past I was underwhelmed, the new Celtx Cards for iOS looks kind of interesting (that's index cards, btw). Oh, and I didn't realise it's pronounced with a "k"...
