The current release (9.0.161) bring back the long awaited reminders.
You can add one or more events to one thought including a reminder for each event.
Further, all events can be viewed on the timeline (View -> timeline).

I have been using TheBrain v9 every day for eight months now and the app including syncing is very stable and is exactly the same either on macOS or on Windows.

Best,
Dominik

TheBrain 9 has come very far. I'm impressed. The three biggest improvements:

1. The ability to have multiple brains open at the same time. This makes it a lot easier to chop your information into smaller brains, rather than cramming them all into one brain.

2. The editor is far more robust, making TheBrain an actually good note organizer. Likewise, the way TheBrain 9 handles other attachments to thoughts seems much improved.

3. The iOS version keeps a copy of your data locally, so you don't have to be online to use it -- I can't say I've put this to the test yet, but looking forward to doing so.

But there are many other improvements. Brains sync to the cloud for more more quickly. The timeline view looks like a very useful tool. You can get a sense of the improvements from the latest webinar by TheBrain Technologies:

I agree with Steve, and would add to his list the ability to have multiple tabs for the same brain. This makes working with a document that has a lot of nodes very easy -- without having to spend a lot of time navigating.

I've been testing TheBrain 9 through all 224 betas so far and found the development team to be a great group of people to work with, responsive to problems and suggestions, and interested in integrating customer feedback into the product.

'member when all software was priced at $200 or above? Then the 21st century happened. Apparently, TheBrain missed that particular development. If you're Adobe or Microsoft you can get away with their pricing. Otherwise? Tough sell.

As free software, it's way limited. Full-version? Nice but not that nice.

I would never try to tell anyone what software should be worth to them, but to me TheBrain is well worth the price. I use TheBrain for most of my information management. And why should I expect to pay $40 for this great software? They now have native apps running on Windows and OSX, as well as iOS and Android. They have a reliable cloud service, which gives me the ability to see and manage my information through any browser. Also, TheBrain Technologies puts a lot of effort into helping me get the most from the software with their extensive free webinars.

Then there is the fact that it is just so much fun to use.

When I evaluated Thebrain some time ago I was put off by the fact that the only way to sync was through the company's servers.
Really, all my information unencrypted somewhere in the US?
I have no secrets to hide but my privacy is worth more than the usage fee to me.
Has this policy changed?

PS: no offence to anyone whose preferences differ from mine

You cannot configure a private sync / cloud service in the basic version -- perhaps in the enterprise version, but this is not clear.

Information about security, sync storage, encryption, and privacy is not easy to come by. There is no publicly-stated privacy policy in any obvious location. The betas do not include a manual or FAQs. So, the only answer would be found in their forum.

Short story: don't sync sensitive information.

Thanks for the answer, the privacy issue in combination with (to me) not so obvious ways to export the information were the main reasons I decided against TheBrain then although I found the interaction with the data intriguing.

TheBrain Technologies' privacy policy is here:

Thank you for locating that.

Note -- your data is encrypted only in transit and only via SSL. For data at rest (i.e., stored on their servers) the policy is silent and one must assume the default case that the data are not encrypted at rest. The policy is also silent about backups of your data that the company might make. In other words, transmitting data to TheBrain -- like almost any other cloud service -- is entirely at your own risk.

Which is why they say in their policy "To ensure the highest level of protection of the information you disclose to TheBrain, we recommend that you not disclose any sensitive personal information about yourself to TheBrain."
