I just noticed that Tom Davis has posted an update to Zoot, which he terms critical. It also has some nice new features. Here’s what he said about it on the Zoot forum:
Critical Fix: Prevents a possible database file truncation issue (highly
unlikely, but there).
============================================
Enhancements:
* Added a “Zoot It” command to the right-click menu of Windows Explorer to
facilitate file importing / linking. Select the files you want to
import/link in Windows Explorer, then right-click and choose “Zoot It” from
the pop-up menu.
* Added dedicated text import for the following file types: Adobe (PDF),
Rich Text (RTF), Word (DOC, DOCX), Power Point (PPT, PPTX), Excel (XLS,
XLSX), Web Page (HTML) and Web Archive (MHT).
* Overhauled the File Folder Sync Action. Now this action will create blank
File Links so that notes about the files (meta-data) can be added more
cleanly. See the updated Help file for more details.
* Zoot will examine the text portion of linked files when processing
database rules and queries. If the file contents match your query or your
folder rules, the File Link will show up accordingly.
* To make this process more efficient, Zoot will create index files in a
ZIDX subfolder for recognized file types. This feature isn’t fully baked
yet (the index files are just plain text right now), but it does speed up
queries and rule processing when dealing with linked files.
* See Tools | Options - Tweak2 tab to modify the above behavior globally.
* Added a
item property to turn on/off the
above behavior for File Links on an item by item basis.
* Updated Zoot’s phone dialer (Actions menu or Ctrl+U) to bypass the very
lame Windows Phone Dialer.
* Fixed a bunch of little display bugs.
