Thanks Pierre, your structured development of IQ is impressive!

Are you thinking of a way to display "see also" links on the 2-D Surface View?

(improved UI, Precision touchpad support, Google sync).

v114 also contains a brand new feature: ad hoc bidirectional links
between items (i.e. "See also" links)
For links which do not fit the parent-child metaphor, this is a real
game changer.

Excellent suggestion Alexander !

How do you see this best implemented ?
Do you think (1) there should be an intermediate ghost item (named Related Items) with an expand button to show/hide these OR (2) related items show as regular sub-items ?
Seems 1 is better no ?

Pierre
Alexander Deliyannis 9/23/2019 3:42 pm
Definitely (1), and with an option to hide them completely for clarity.
Alexander Deliyannis 9/24/2019 5:31 am
P.S. And when they are hidden, a flag to show which items have Related ones.

Yes, I can read and follow instructions. Setup.exe is blocked by Defender on Windows 10 (v1903).

This might be a topic for the IQ forums, but for what it's worth, I had no problem installing on Windows 10 Pro v1909. (I don't have a good understanding about Windows Defender, or about whether its behavior is affected by the fact that I have Avast installed.)

I updated the installation instructions. It should be clearer now !

Pierre,

How would you define the essence of InfoQube?

And what is the quickest route to getting to grips with it?

Dr Andus wrote:
Pierre,

And what is the quickest route to getting to grips with it?

The essence:
- InfoQube is item based. An item represents a thing, a thought, a person, an event, a task, a paragraph, a file, a URL. i.e. some fragment of information you want to keep
- Items can have extra information / metadata (called fields and tags in IQ). Users can create fields of 4 basic types (text, number, date, yes/no). Tags have inheritance
- Field values can be linked through equations and triggers (to calculate taxes, invoice total, etc)
- Items don't have types and are not restricted on what field values / tags they can have
- Items can be linked in many ways (parent-child, ad-hoc bidirectional links, hyperlinks, common fields and/or tags)
- All items are created equal (i.e. Graph-based, not Tree-based)
- IQ proposes many UIs to show / sort / filter this information to show only relevant items
- Items can have long-form rich-text content (shown in word-processor like UIs)
- All items and metadata is saved in a file, managed by a database engine (open format)

How to start:
- Start small
- Select something you want to manage and think on how you'd like it to work, what you'd like to get out
- Read the documentation. It has grown to be quite extensive
- Join the forum and ask questions, we have a small but helpful community

Hi Outliners,

InfoQube v116 has a new view: Card View

- Card view is an infinitely sized surface
- The view shows items as resizable cards
- The view is divided into 4 quadrants
- Cards can be freely moved over the surface
- Cards have two sides:
- Side 1 shows the item text and selected item values (URL, Notes)

- All document types are supported (HTML, MHT, PDF, XLS, etc)

Hi Outliners !

InfoQube v116 (for Windows) is now available for download (v116e is the current stable version)

New in this release:

1- Card View: Desktop-like 2D surface divided in 4 quadrant where you can view items + rich text content as resizable two-sided index cards. Perfect alternative to Outline views. No other PIM has such a view !

2- Database-level Find and Replace. Truly amazing that OneNote, Evernote, Notion, Roam and just about all other big players do not have this feature

3- Insert Image dialog. Supports drag-drop

A total of 40 new / improved features. Details here: https://infoqubeim.com/drupal5/?q=node/4982

Dang, Pierre, that’s impressive. I loved your summary of InfoQube’s features, too – a very helpful way of looking at it.

Keep up the good – and amazingly consistent – work!

Hi Outliners !

Any heavy tag users ? How do you remember their exact names ?
Do you find you end up with duplicate / near duplicate / synonym tags ?

Starting with v118, InfoQube Grid views supports a new column type, Tag branch, which will only show tags from a given branch of your tag hierarchy.
Editing tags in this column will also limit the selection to tags in a the tag branch.

Hi Outliners !

3 months since our last update on this forum thread... Time sure flies !
2022 is here and it brings hope of a return to some normality :-)

Thankfully, the pandemic hasn't slowed down the development of InfoQube IM. Of notable mention to users of this forum:

1- NEW Inline Links: Type [[ to define Roam-like links to other items without interrupting your work flow

2- NEW Back Links and Doc Links: Shows links to the current item and links to other items / web pages

3- NEW Find / Filter dialog: Unified dialog to perform many find and filter commands

4- Grid: Two new column types: Tag branch and Item Values

InfoQube has become an extraordinarily powerful tool.

As has often been commented recently, we are living in a seeming golden age of information management software and so-called "tools for thought". And with InfoQube, we have a uniquely sophisticated outliner under very active development (Pierre is focusing on it full-time).

I had previously tried to go all-in on Logseq (while keeping an eye on Roam, Siyuan, Unigraph, and other innovators), but I kept finding that they lacked the features I was looking for. I wanted the full power of outlining with columns. Tinderbox (MacOS) and InfoQube (Windows) remain in a class of their own in this regard. In the past, when I had a Mac, I used Tinderbox, but I currently have a Windows machine, which led me to explore InfoQube.

Now that I am a couple of months in to doing everything in InfoQube, I couldn't be happier. The software has made leaps and bounds recently. I can do things like:

- outline a document
- write summary notes in an adjacent column
- make the summary column into an outline column in another pane
- view/edit my outline as a concept map in another pane
- view/edit my outline as a flat list (sorted and filtered by whatever criteria I want) in yet another pane
- all using whatever fonts and colors I want, including my own outline style templates
- along with sophisticated tagging, backlinking, etc

The list goes on. Some learning and tinkering may be needed to take full advantage of IQ's features, but I have found that it's well worth it. And Pierre is generous in providing assistance and implementing new features.

So for those on Windows who like "power tool" style software, I definitely encourage checking it out.

Hi Outliners !

First, thank you Lucas for your comments about InfoQube. Innovation often comes from actual users like you. We listen and appreciate all comments in our quest to create the best information management hub.

In the last 5 months:

1- Document view mode: Distraction-free word processing-like view of your outlines

2- Long-form document editing: Auto-fit images. Combined with multi-window, heading collapse, [[ links / backlinks, and typewriter auto-scrolling, makes it a great writing environment

3- Reminders: Extensive "always on" task management hub with pre / post event reminders. Available on your PC and on mobile devices through Google services sync

4- Improved Import / Export

Outliners and CRIMPers !

Here is a quick note on InfoQube’s recent updates:

1- Forms Dialog: View and add items using forms, batch apply form values to items (v121)

2- Evernote Sync: Tags now sync both ways between Evernote and IQ (v121)

3- Card View enhancements: Item Links and Drag-drop (v121)

4- Improved links between InfoQube and apps like OneNote and Zotero (which support multiple hyperlinks per link) (v121)

5- Multiple Surfaces: Surfaces are 2-D canvas where you can place items and their hierarchy of sub-items, attached (as in an outliner) or detached (as in mind maps) (v122)

6- Long-form writing panes can be used in even more ways: Floating Item Editors, System-wide Doc pane and (new!) Doc panes attached to specific Outliner tabs (v122)

7- Improved support for large high-DPI monitors with more floating pane types

It's a while since I last looked at InfoQube (since I work exclusively on Macs nowadays), but I couldn't resist – I've just downloaded both IQ and the Outliner version and installed them on a virtual Windows machine. Wow, they've come on since I last looked at them! I'm going to have to give them a thorough going-over when I've got a spare moment. Very impressive!

Cheers,
Bill

IQ Outliner needs updating as it is more than 1 year old. Stick to InfoQube IM until I update it.
I've pushed that task to the top of the list

The version number is a marketing decision. You have been working on this product a ong time. By all accounts it is very capable. Why is it not at v1 yet? Just curious, asking from one vendor to another.

Hi Andy,

That quote was from 7 years ago... Numbering was change and IQ is now at v122.

Have a great day!
