I haven't posted much here lately, because I've pretty much gone all in on Infoqube - a Windows program. It gives remarkable flexibility for managing information.
Pierre continues to develop IQ at a fast pace, which is remarkable to say considering how many years it's been in development.
Just for example, here is today's post re the latest update out today (0.9.85), a major update.
http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=node/3667
If you're a Windows user, you really should check it out to see how well it might meet your needs.

would have to agree!
incredible flexible, and the gantt/calendar visualisations are quite useful! They're surprisingly powerful.

Hi Outliners and CRIMPers !
It's been a while since I've posted on this forum. I've been working hard on improving the feature set and UI of InfoQube.
In addition, major restructuring and update was done on the documentation lately. Do check it out, in particular here:
All menu commands with links to related detailed pages: http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=node/62
Main table of content: http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=node/2043
Tree-view of all pages: http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=booktree
Also worth noting, these pages which describe either recent features or advanced ones:

3- Multi-user / multi-instance support (v101)
4- Improved outline labels with support for colors and icons (v101)

How I would love to play around with InfoQube. But alas, until it makes its way onto Mac, it's a pleasure I shall have to forego.
Something of a reversal of expectations in this forum, given the number of Windows users who appear to envy us lucky Mac people!
Best to all,
Bill

I run InfoQube on a Windows 10 VM under Parallels 13 and I'm glad I do!

Paul:
How well does running MacOs in a VM under Windows 10 work for you? Also, what version of the MacOs are you running?
I've been tempted to do this myself, but I have been concerned about what performance would be like. I am currently using a 2011 MacBook Pro, which works fine for me, but given how Apple has gotten away from providing Pro versions of their laptops, I have been tempted to move to Windows 10 and run MacOs in a VM.
I realize that Apple is still making MacBook Pros, and their new Imac Pro and Mac Pro are looking pretty good, but it used to be that you could buy your MacBook Pro and then put in all the memory you want, and a nice, fast SSD. Apple has foreclosed the memory upgrade route, and I am not happy about buying my memory and SSD from Apple.
At any rate, I'd like to know what the performance is like for your Windows 10-McOs setup.

Actually, I'm running Windows 10 Pro in a VM using Parallels 13 on macOS 10.13.2. This is a MacBook Pro with 16 GB memory. I allocate 2 GB to the VM, Parallels takes another 0.5 GB for itself -- so the footprint is 2.5 GB total.
It works well. I've never had a Parallels crash. I've had Windows 10 issues, but that's par for the course and would have happened on Windows-specific hardware anyway. A benefit of using a VM is that Parallels takes snapshots so whenever Windows crashes I merely revert to an instance of the VM prior to the crash. (Normally the snapshot is within 6 hours of the crash at the most.) I keep all my data in folders on the Mac side of the machine, so I never rely on the VM to store my data -- just Windows and other software.

Does anyody knows how large a database can be without serious slowdown ?

With any modern computer, the maximum working size is 2GB (using the current DB engine) and millions of items (up to 100M, depending on the actual content)
The key is to filter to limit the number of items shown in a grid. With the many built-in ways to filter, it is not really an issue.
IQ is quite efficient as far as data management. For example, my main DB is approx 40MB and includes everything from the last 10+ years!

This is wonderful; congratulations!
May I ask if something similar is underway or planned for Google Contacts? (Or already there and I have missed it?!)
The possibility of getting rid of Outlook for offline access to Google Contacts and Calendar is mind opening...

Ah, Pierre, Pierre, how tragic that InfoQube doesn't run on Mac (Paul's solution is cool, but I can't cope with Windows at all any more; truly ghastly compared to my by "no means flawless but pretty damn consistent" experience of macOS; I've managed to reduce my dependence on Windows application to just a single one, and even that one is under heavy siege).
But you'll see the light one day... ;-)

Nah, it's just very boring and translation-specific - a bitext alignment tool called AlignFactory Lite (developed by Terminotix in Canada). The best alignment tool bar none, but of no interest to anybody except translators (well, maybe some academics?).
Cheers!

Hi Outliners,
Fast forward 3 months of development, v114 is now online with improvements to the Calendar
(improved UI, Precision touchpad support, Google sync).
v114 also contains a brand new feature: ad hoc bidirectional links between items (i.e. "See also" links)
For links which do not fit the parent-child metaphor, this is a real game changer.
