Outlinely is now in version 2. The developer has added a library/folder interface which seems handy. A non-library edition is available for free. Check it out on the App Store.

Wow! Version 2.0 is a huge improvement. Good support for Markdown, tagging, and multiple source folders. The tagging, focus and zoom in (= hoist) features all work really well, allowing you to isolate all tagged entries, or zero in on a particular branch.
I’m actually really impressed! Once an iOS version becomes available (and the developer is behind the glorious but alas now defunct SlickTasks, which ran on iOS), this will become the outliner to beat. Although full GitHub Markdown support would be nice…

What I like about this implementation is that you can apply the check boxes on an item by item basis. Many outline apps force you to choose check boxes for all of the items in an outline or for none of them. This is a better scheme, I think.

... and Outlinely 2.3 adds word counts, highlights, strikethroughs and theming (oh, and handles two different kinds of tag: hashtags and [at] tags). In fact, I’m currently running Outlinely with a Letterspace theme (the Workflowy theme is comparatively dull, but very accurate!).
This is rapidly becoming my favourite outliner. But Glam Development are being very slow to say when an iOS version will be forthcoming. A shame, because their SlickTasks app did outlining very well (although it doesn’t appear to work reliably any more, having not been updated since January 2015).
Once Outlinely has an iOS version, it’ll be the bees’ knees! Apart from all the usual outliner features, its major strength is the ability to easily drag and drop outline items, which makes it ideal for setting up task lists and then archiving them.
Cheers,
Bill
