Following various customer requests, Hyper Plan v2.1 has been enhanced to run off portable devices, such as USB sticks. The changes made to accomodate this were:
-the option to store preferences in a .ini file, instead of system preferences (or the Mac equivalent)
-'recent files' stored as relative path if you are running off a .ini file

You can even install Windows and Mac versions into the same folder and have them both use the same .ini file and plan files. Which means that you can use the same usb stick between Windows and Mac.

There have also been quite a few other improvements. You can find out more and download a beta version here:

Thanks for the information Andy. Is this version, 2.1.0 a beta? The reason I ask is because 2.0.2 still shows on your main download page. Also, 2.0.2 cam as a zip file which I assumed was portable too, no?

Yes it is. The link has been posted here and to all the people that reported bugs or requested features that were implemented in the release. However there have been no bug reports, so I will make it the production release as soon as I finish writing the newsletter that does with it.

No. It is available in zip form as a few people have problems without our .exe installer (usually due to missing standard folders). But it still stores preferences in the Windows system registry.

v2.1.0 can be made portable, regardless of how it is installed. Just select to store your preferences in a .ini file in the 'preferences' window.

Portable apps are great, but on Windows OS, just make sure they aren't installed in protected folders, such as c:\Program Files.
I created folder c:\PortableApps for such apps.

That reminds me - I need to test that Hyper Plan gracefully handles trying (and failing) to create a .ini file in a read-only folder.
