There's been a couple of mentions of LeaderTask recently. On July 10th, they announced that the application is now free. The free version has full standalone functionality - no crippled features, time/trial limitations, etc. Free license includes future updates also.
Users wanting cloud and mobile synch or group/collab features can pay to upgrade to a Premium account.
A note of interest is that that are close to release of a Mac version. This will result in LeaderTask being available for Windows, Mac, iPhone/iPad IOS, Android - a pretty impressive assortment of platform choices. This could make the third license type - business - more attractive for group/shared task and collaboration across business units.
Unfortunately, their English site is not as updated or info-rich as their Russian site - some google translate action is often helpful. Here's is the translated version of their announcement:
https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http://www.leadertask.ru/content/view/1003&edit;-text=

Thank you for posting this update. I am still interested in their product and would like to give it a try when I can. If you see any additional information on their English language pages, it would be great if you could share them. It is still not clear which file(s) I should download for the portable version, and if it needs to be registered with them.
Thanks,

Ken, I do not think the software needs to be registered with LeaderTask. Regarding your question about the portable edition, I reference the quote from their website.
"Works from a flash drive
"The LeaderTask organizer is not tied to Windows. Copy the entire folder with the organizer to a flash drive and carry it with you!"

Hi Jon,
I initially thought it was that simple, but after reading comments on download forums about needing to contact Leadertask via email before being able to use their program, I wondered if some type of activation code was needed, or if the software only ran in trial mode for a limited time. I do not mean to sound paranoid, but this program seems to have set off some malware programs according to some prior posts, and I have already had my machine at work wiped clean for "phoning home" to somewhere in Eastern Europe. I am hoping to give it a try as soon as my schedule permits.

No, the latest version is 10.0.1.0 and is apparently free with no activation. You are right to be intrigued by the program, but because of the non-existent import/export facility, I cannot use it.
Go for it if you want to test it out. As I said, I muchprefer to use ToDoList or EPIM for what LeaderTask does.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the follow-up. I really need to try the program to see if it will work for me. What site were using to download the 10.0.1.0 file? And, is there only one file type available (zip or exe), or will I need to select one? I quickly looked at Softpedia, and they had 10.0.1, but listed it as trial software. And CNET is still listing v8.x as the most current version. And Leadertask has so many web sites that I am not sure which one would be best for finding the new free download. I cannot imagine how they keep all of their sites current.

Ken, the site is http://www.leadertask.com/en/
There is one selection of a Windows download - exe. The version is not a trial. The developers eliminated that when they came out with version 10.x.

Thanks, Jon. I had a few moments last night to look closer at their website and found the one download link (all of the others were linked to a sign-up page). I downloaded a copy of the exe file, but have not installed it. My preference with portable apps is a zip file with all of the files in one folder, but that is mostly for convenience. I am assuming that the installer has the option to make a portable install, but will not have time to find out for a few days due to my schedule. Thanks again for all of your help and assistance.

As of 10 minutes ago this Leader Task site had no mention of free softwate, except for the trial period, aND was quoting a $59.95 charge.
Am confused.

Daly -
Go back to the first post in the thread and click the provided link - you'll see the announcement.
Any LeaderTask version 10.+ does not require a license key. For that reason, I would recommend downloading from LeaderTask.com instead of one of the Softpedia, Downloader.com, etc sites that might still be hosting a version prior to 10.

Hmmm.... well....
Thanks for the link Jon. I downloaded this exe and it is an installer. I installed it. That linked webpage says it is portable, so I copied the whole folder to a flash drive and tried to run it from there. It appears to work.
BUT ... when running the program the very first thing it requires is a sign in. So I had to create and account. I did that. Yay, I can now use the software. However I note that "premium features are available (15 days)" (it says so in the title bar). And I note that they sent me an email saying I could test all the program features for 45 days.
So is it true that "The free version has full standalone functionality - no crippled features, time/trial limitations, etc. " ? It does not appear to have offline / standalone functionality (it requires me to sign in before even using it) and it does appear to be time limited in some way.
All that said, it does appear to be very powerful, with task hierarchy, calendar, attachments, assignment, complex filtering, and several types of categorization (categories, labels, "marker", status). I'd be interested to see English documentation or manual if such exists. I couldn't find any

You have now confirmed what I was hoping would not be true. I had hoped that this new release would not require registration, and more importantly, was hoping that there was a help file included with the download. I understand the confusion. Signing up/in is optional. You can dismiss the dialogue and proceed to use LeaderTask locally. It is free to use in this manner.
I sound like a supporter of the software, but I actually don't like it much. Thing is, we should get our facts straight, then decide if the product suits us. For me, it does not.

I went to http://www.leadertask.com/en/
I saw no reference to v10+ being "free" in the manner indicated in this discussion thread, but downloaded it in good faith nevertheless, and, sure enough, when I executed the proggie, it required account registration, and that initial sign-on page would not let me pass without a registered account being set up.
The thing is, I don't want to be locked in to an online registered service in order to use the software. I want to be able to use it offline or online without signing on to anything. In that regard, this software is redolent of the odious lock-in marketing practices of Evernote. Thus, for me, LeaderTask installation would seem to have been a waste of time.
In any event, the software has now been expunged from my laptop's hard drive, without my knowing whether it was any good or had potential to be useful.
Pity. Score is nought out of 10.

If you dismiss the request to sign up, the program stores the data locally and it is free.
Honest. I tried it but for the reasons I previously described I decided it was not for me. I can see its appeal though - you may find it worthwhile.

Well then, maybe it's just buggy?
I tried "dismissing" that panel using the "Close" button, and using the Escape key, with the same result in both cases - and this was/is repeatable.

No, InfoSelect is not my primary PIM anymore as it no longer meets my (changed) requirements, though it is my secondary PIM.
MS OneNote (Office 2013) is my primary PIM and not only meets most of my needs but also helped me to discover new requirements that older PIMs do not meet.
That doesn't stop me having a continuing interest in what other PIM tools are out there and trialling them.
Currently seriously interested in Zotero, Wezinc and WizNote. The latter is arguably a "killer app." as someone called it.
The best PIMs requre an investment of time in exploration.

Well, I installed Leadertask on a flash drive today. While I could get the sign up screen to disappear, I could not get anything to happen after that. I tried several times with the same results. Frustrating and disappointing.

In a fit of frustration over my recent CRIMPing failures, I finally decided to sign up for LeaderTask to see if it could meet my needs. I did get into the program after activating my account, but I did not appreciate their displaying my password on my confirmation email. It may be convenient, but it seems to fly in the face of best practices these days. I am hoping that the embedded documentation is helpful, as much of the program does not seem overly intuitive.

Ken -
I see you decided to jump in on LeaderTask. I did so about a year ago and have been very happy I did. The biggest issue I have with LeaderTask is the lack of a detailed manual. That said, I think you'll find a deep feature set that provides some really great capability. A true "sleeper" app IMHO, and one that I originally paid for and will continue to pay for the premium version to get the mobile client synch.
The English forum is pretty sparse, and I recommend using Google translate and reading the Russian forum.
I'd be happy to help or exchange thoughts offline if you're interested - just let me know.
