PIM for Linux and Win7?

I've been looking for some time without success for a PIM that will run on both Windows and Linux that is capable of popping up reminders at a given time and date. An ability to sync betwixt Linux and Win7 would earn lots of extra points. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Paul,

Have you looked at Notecase Pro? I think it can do what you are looking for, though I'm not sure.

Thunderbird now ships with the Lightning plugin (they just call it the "calendar tab" now) for doing dates and appointments. You can also access RSS newsfeeds, newsgroup servers and keep an address book with that. Rainlendar is also an option that runs on multiple platforms if you want just the event list and very basic task reminders. I believe both can be configured to sync with Google or CalDAV compliant servers, which is handy since Google calendar syncs with android phones. These are good tri-platform options if you need something easy.

Some people swear by Emacs org-mode. You can ultimately shape org to do whatever workflow you need, with the caveat of an extreme learning curve to get there. As a fun anecdote, Amazon.com made extensive use of custom emacs scripts in their earlier days. I would probably recommend using one of the first two programs to begin with even if you do decide to go the org route, since you will need something to track calendars while actually navigating said learning curve.

I seem to use several PIMs at once, across Linux, Windows, Android, and iOS.

- bin for recording tasks: Google Tasks. I have apps on Android and iOS that sync with each other and my Google Calendar. It lacks true hierarchical order. But it's a great in-basket that ties tasks to due dates, is quick and ubiquitous

- big picture, keeping track of broad goals and major and/or ongoing projects. Workflow, Mindscope, sometimes Xmind, Notecase Pro.

- workflow management: Notecase Pro, Workflow, Editorial and even Haroopad.

So I start my day by looking at the big picture, then the tasks, then pick the tool and platform I want to work in for the day.

Jaslar, by Workflow do you mean Workflowy or some other tool?

Yes, Workflowy. Sorry for the typo. And upon reflection, I realize that I more often review the tasks than the big picture. My big Workflowy categories do help in that, though.
