Questions for LeaderTask users

I am going to start a new thread since the last conversation about this program was a bit OT to that thread’s subject (i.e. AllMyNotes). I am intrigued by the software, but am a bit hesitant to download it based on some of the comments in the previous thread about blocked servers (by MAM) in Russia hosting the EXE file (for windows install). I am also a bit confused about their pricing policy as I am only interested in the stand-alone portable version of the software, and do not have any need for syncing files. Any information about the program, its cost, and if the portable version “phones home” would be greatly appreciated. I am very interested in the program’s feature set as I like how it handles both notes and tasks as well as offering projects, tags and categories (but could also find myself interested in an alternate program with a similar feature set).

I tried this software not too long ago, but found that it did not suit me. I found it awkward to use and not terribly intuitive. The contact section did not seem well thought out. But the killer (for me) is the lack of import/export options. At least from my (brief) trial, it appears that your data is pretty much locked in and locked out. Still the concept behind the software is good, but the implementation for me, is wanting.
There are two programs in this category that I recommend. EssentialPIM Pro and ToDoList. The former can do many things well enough while the latter exceeds at task and project management. Of course there are Ecco Pro and InfoQube which do so much more and may be overkill.

Thanks for the feedback. Your UI observations raise a flag, but everybody adapts to different (or quirky) layouts differently, so I would want to have a go before deciding. I will need to look a bit further about the data lock, although most of the more permanent data will be residing elsewhere. I have looked at EPIM and ToDoList in the past, and they just do not seem to offer the structure that I am looking for. Ecco certainly did, but that is not going to be an option at work. I have looked at IQ again, but it has trouble loading correctly on my machine (and is constantly flagged and sandboxed by my firewall), so I may need to contact PPL if I want to head further down that road.
Did you have any issues downloading the LeaderTask software? And what was the price for just the stand-alone version with no syncing?

BTW, the project management features got a significant upgrade in the last version. Task links are much improved (supporting standard FS but also FF, SS and SF) with an improved UI which includes Critical path highlighting and CPM.

Hi Pierre,
Thank you for the quick reply. Nice to hear about the new features.
Unfortunately, I had numerous problems when I tried both the portable versions of Rel 52 and 52b on my Win7 machine. In addition to the program being flagged for sandboxing, it kept locking up my whole machine required a forced shutdown. I want to use the portable version so it can be used at work, but I do not know what to do to get things running without these kinds of glitches. I can try the newest version, but I am not sure what will be different. Any suggestions?
