A new, simple, outliner for Mac:

Here's hoping a trial version is made available.

Thank you. Useful to know about.

Thanks for pointing this out. I've been playing around with Outlinely for a half hour or so, and have come to the conclusion that this $5 app is better than 90% of the outliners available for Windows (wish this was a Windows app), and is pretty darn good on the Mac. It isn't full-featured like OmniOutliner, but it is slick and easy to use. It looks like it is still requiring some development, as there is no help file and "show toolbar" and "customize toolbar" selections under the VIEW menu are grayed out and inactive.

My one real complaint is with the keyboard commands (a frequent complaint I have with outliners). To move topics around, you've got to use a combination of the bracket symbols with option and/command keys. Although you can indent and outdent with the tab and shift-tab strokes, which is standard.

Major update regarding Outlinely. I just discovered that it will not re-open its own files, so stay away for now!

I wrote to the developer, who responded quickly and helped me resolve the problem. Turns out I had a corrupted database of associations on my computer. Now I don't and Outlinely opens its files fine. Sorry for the panic, but I didn't want anyone to buy the app if this was not so easily fixed.

Thanks for this. $5 is a small price to pay to encourage work like this. Recently, I've started picking up an old MacBook for coffee shop computing, and this is just the kind of quick, non-wifi dependent app I was looking for. It actually feels a lot like Workflowy, but local.

I just downloaded the Outlinely trial, I like Workflowy a lot.

This one seems real nice for $5, I am more into the simple outliners as an easy way to jot down and begin organizing ideas, rather than creating and organizing large master plans.

Sorry, everybody, here's the right place to comment on Outlinely. Yes, I agree it's a very pleasant, ultra-simple alternative to huge apps like OmniOutliner. In fact, despite my enthusiasm for Tree, I'm finding I use Outlinely more, parked on one edge of my screen (using the great free menu-bar app 'Arranger': absolutely brilliant!).
