Taskpaper becomes... Tasque (and no Hog Bay in sight)

Okay, a new incarnation of Taskpaper has arisen. I get the impression the app's been passed on to someone new; although Tasque (as the new incarnation has been christened) is pretty much identical to Taskpaper, a few minutes of exploration show that it's got a lot more options. Which is encouraging!

I shall write to the developer forthwith and suggest that folding is the next big step forward...

Cheers,
Bill

Bill,

Is this for iOS? Thanks!

Never mind. I figured it out for myself (I can do that sometimes.)

I guess this developer took the open source code and massaged it into his own app. Looks good, and for $2.99 (it's an iOS app BTW) worth a purchase.

Sorry, yes, forgot to specify ;-)

Here's the link for the app in the US store:

One small glitch so far with Tasque. When I tried to set up Dropbox sync I got an error message indicating Tasque is still in "development mode." I sent an e-mail to the developer for clarification via their Facebook page. Awaiting reply.

I got a reply (that was pretty quick) from the developer re the Dropbox issue:

Thank you for contacting us and extremely sorry for the dropbox issue.

Currently this is an issue in 1.0 version of Tasque. This issue IS FIXED for the next upcoming 1.1 version of Tasque application.
Our team will submit the next 1.1 version of application very soon ( within next two days ) in App Store.

Once again we are extremely sorry for the dropbox issue which you are encountering in Tasque. Just wait for approx 1 week to get the next version from App Store.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or problems related to tasque application.

Thank You,
Tasque Team

One other thing that I noticed with the app is that there is mention of Tasque for Mac in the Help file. That must be in their plans, because it does not yet appear available.

Hm - excellent; a responsive developer! I like those!

Thanks for the update, Steve - it would be great to have Tasque on PC, too. I notice there are already Android and Linux apps called 'Tasque' (not, I think, by the same developer).

I got a response regarding my inquiry about a Mac version (I didn't think to ask about a PC version):

Yes it is in the process. We will update you once we launch the Mac app. But currently we are giving priorities to iOS version. In 1.1 version maybe we will remove that from Help section.

NOTE: There is one more issue found in the app. Customization of fonts is not working properly. Our team is working on this but currently we are not sure whether this font related fix will arrive in upcoming 1.1 version or not.

PLEASE let us know if you have any further questions.

I like that they pro-actively told me about another issue.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Tasque for iOS is clearly a revised version of TaskPaper, which Hog Bay made open source. I wonder what the new developer of Tasque has in store for the Mac version. He/they won't have the open source code to start with, so I guess they have to build it from the ground up. If it is a decent app that syncs to the iOS app, that may draw a lot of business away from Hog Bay, and Jesse might end up regretting that he a.) stopped developing the iOS version of TaskPaper; and/or b.) that he released it to open source. Stay tuned!

I just heard from the developer that they are changing the name in the next version to Taskmator. Not as catchy, but there was probably a conflict with the other "Tasque" apps you mentioned, Bill.

The big question for me is whether or not this might get an Android port...
