Here's an interview with Keith Blount from Mac Appstorm:

I don't know how much he talks about the issues you're concerned with, AndyJim, but it's probably a good read anyway.

Having said all that, there are alternatives. One of them is ListPro by
Ilium Software (http://www.iliumsoft.com/listpro/ also available for
iPhone and Android. The desktop version could be used as a fairly
competent writing tool (the 'Notes' field supports rich text and can
cope with significant amounts of text), I suppose, but the mobile phone
versions are a bit too fiddly for that.

ListPro is wonderful, by far the best list manager I have used, but it has never been ported to Android. I used it for years, going back to Palm OS, but abandoned it because of the lack of an Android version. I don't understand why Ilium hasn't ported it, since it seems to be built on use the same proprietary database as their eWallet password manager, which IS available on Android. Nonetheless. I can't imagine using it as a writing tool.

I too used Blackwell Idealist back in the day, and I remember that even as a newby I found it easy to use (I moved on to FileMaker Pro back then - wish I could afford it now!). Anyway - You can get Idealist 3 and 5 here - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/idealistdb Unfortunately it /they do not work on my Windows 7 64bit. Ho hum!

Hello Daly,

Thanks for mentioning about our sticky notes product for Windows - Notezilla - http://www.conceptworld.com/Notezilla

I happened to use Notezilla this morning, and thought of your requirements for a simple, unobtrusive program for getting things down. As a result I am mentioning Notezilla again. Please consider looking at this program. It may be helpful, and spur on your writing while you seek other components to facilitate your work flow. http://www.conceptworld.com/Notezilla

Believe it or not, Blackwell Idealist ver.3 does work on the 64-bit version of Windows 7 (at least it does on my system). The program itself is 32-bit. Unfortunately the setup program in the Idealist executable isn't, which is why people run into difficulties. The answer is to paste a copy of the Idealist program folder into the Program Files (x86) folder of Win7. Then create a shortcut to i32.exe and in Properties set Compatibility to something appropriate (I use Windows98).

If anyone is interested in trying this out but doesn't have a copy of the full Idealist program folder, contact me via the Idealist users forum and I'll make a copy available.

Yours
Lawrence

An excellent freeware alternative to Notezilla is Stickies: http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/ It is remarkably full-featured and sophisticated for freeware.

"I don’t understand why Ilium hasn’t ported it"

Well, xtabber, I understand, after having had contacted its developer, in the kindest and most constructive imaginable form, without receiving ANY sort of answer. It's just that some developer do something good, here and there, by pure chance, and then never ever again - they're just coders, and if they just do the coding spare-time, on top of that, well, expectations of users will never be met. It's just our wishful thinking, but dealing with developers who're sub-standard.

It's as simple as that.

(Whilst developers like for Zoot and such just don't do enough coding...)

Btw, that's why I'm so much fed up by MS: They should have BOTH types, coders AND thinkers... but then, where are those thinkers of theirs' results, good heavens?!
