Doc,
You might take a look at TheBrain. You can get a concept map approach using the expanded view mode, which allows you to move your "thoughts" around at will. Then you can use the somewhat obtuse, but effective selection process to export a plain text file that maintains the hierarchy via tabbed indents.
I believe you can do this with the free version, so you don't need to make a big investment.
Anyway, just another option to consider.

Thanks for that Steve, I wasn't aware of that feature, will check it out. Pasting the tabbed indents into WorkFlowy might be one way to convert that to OPML and other formats.

Hi, again, Doc,
I just stumbled across this video tutorial which demonstrates how expanded view in TheBrain works:
http://www.thebrain.com/support/tutorials/display-options/expand/
Note that this video uses TheBrain 6.5, not the current version, but I don't think much has changed other than you can make your links curve now.

Thanks, Steve. I will really need to check this out as I had to spend two hours restoring the outline in Bonsai line by line after the Scapple export only resulted in a flat list, which wasn't fun...
I mean it would be a big selling point for Scapple if it was able to preserve at least a partial hierarchy. They missed a trick there.
