Daly and others
After playing around with Zoot32 I can say that I am very impressed.
It is a great piece of software and very sophisticated. The combination of Filters, Rules and Views is outstanding. I am wondering why other applications do not provide similar functionalities.
It is shame that I have waited so long to give Zoot a try.
I will continue testing and reviewing Zoot during the coming days and weeks and I feel like child who has received a new cool toy to play with.

Having some spare time I also decided to look deeper into Zoot than I had done when I first treid it some years ago. I am also impressed by what it can do and its user-friendly interface and help system.
That said, its current limitations are frustrating. What also concerns me is that it is a purely text-based database. I know that there are plans to add rtf functionality, but rtf is still limiting for, for example, graphics; and the addition of html features, such as web capture,. would be very useful.
I know the current beta version is purely a 32-bit copy of the current 16-bit version; but do any of the current Zoot users know what the plans are for further development of the software?

I'm glad you guy are liking Zoot. I think RT is to come. As for other features I do not know.
Hoover, I think between Surfulater, and simply saving and linking to eb items from Zoot, that it is the one PIM I need.
Its sophistication and tight design are certainly clear

I am not aware of any plans beyond adding RTF, which doesn't mean there are not plans. I've been using Zoot for almost eight years, and have had some experience with the way Tom Davis works. I am sure he will remove the restrictions on the number of folders in a database and the size of the notes. Beyond that, I suspect that there will be continuous small improvements to Zoot, but I would be surprised if there were major additions like the ones you are requesting.
I wouldn't be in favor of bloating the software like that. In fact, I'm even a little ambivalent about adding RTF. I've found that 80 percent of the time, plain text is all I need, and it helps keep file sizes small, searches quick. So it is my hope that once RTF is added that Zoot will provide an option of making a note plain text or RTF.

Stephen,
I long thought that I can't live without an rtf editor but I can.
Using just plain text helps me focusing on the text and the content.
Tom writes this on the Zoot32 beta download page:
"As soon as this beta is stable I will add in the RTF editor (we'll call that beta 2)"

I like Zoot!
But I have a job to be done and I don't have the time to migrate all my data from UR to Zoot so UR is still my information management tool.
I found a little workaround to simulate the smart folders from Zoot in UR:
Instead of creating a folder I am inserting a Search Item. Then I add the query (or rule) and save it. Then I mark the "Automatically start saved search when search item selected" in Tools -> Options -> Search/Reminders.

Dom, I think you have pointed out one of the strengths of URp. There are so many options that almost anything can be 'simulated' given some thought. And more is one the way. I also think Kinook is a solid company committed to developing & supporting a good product.
Of course, there are some things that UR doesn't/can't do like global search but, on balance, URp can do most things Zoot can do plus some extras so I think it's a matter of weight, i.e. what's important to you as a user.
At the moment I can't suggest a fast way to export URp/Import Zoot as I haven't tried it but I can report that importing data from Zoot into URp was pretty simple.
I've always found Zoot to be quite intoxicating on the one hand even @ 16 bits but @ the end of the day I needed something more & to date URp has been able to provide me with the best package.
Just my .02 on the subject of URp vs Zoot 32 @ the moment.
And BTW, ADM 4.88 is still available on their d/l site. What a shame that they missed the boat. I think there is more & more interest in a powerful all-in-one PIM. ADM had a good head start on an interesting approach & blew it big time for reasons I still don't understand. What a waste.
Anyway I hope you are enjoying all those Swiss chocolates & not working too hard.
Best regards from an extremely hot Ridgefield, CT
