I’ve downloaded TheBrain 7 Beta. Right off the top I find it more aesthetically pleasing than previous versions, in large part due to the curved link lines.
Unlike my usual approach to something new - manuals and instructions be damned (also road maps until I’m completely lost) - I’ve been reviewing the various tutorial videos provided on TheBrain site. Doing so has helped me have a greater sense of using the program features more fully, and an appreciation of the underlying power. I understand more clearly why James Fallows, and here, Steve and Dominik, are so enthused about the product.
Is anyone else here working with the beta version?

I’ve also downloaded it today (last time I looked at it was probably version 1) and played around a bit. As I don’t have much time for long evaluations, usually I have to decide on first impressions whether it’s worth investing more of my time. I also happened to be evaluating ConnectedText in recent weeks, and I thought that the two are quite similar in some ways. But somehow CT managed to grab my imagination more than TheBrain so far.

I posted some rambling thoughts about TheBrain on my blog yesterday, in an effort to try to understand better why I like it, but why I don’t use it for all my information management:

I agree with you, Dr. Andus, that there are similarities between CT and TheBrain, notably, of course, the reliance on linking. But the differences are significant as well. I much prefer CT for note taking, while using TheBrain to gather and organize information.
The new, more powerful links in TheBrain are intriguing and I’m curious to learn how they might help me organize my information more effectively.
I hope to read more about your (and anyone else’s) thoughts about TheBrain, Daly and Doc.

Has anyone used extensively TheBrain 7’s web exporting function (which creates a navigateable dynamic HTML/JAVA copy of the database)?
I find that this functionality can be very useful for sharing information with others, but in the version that I use (5.5) it seems to have compatibility issues with several browsers, including Internet Explorer. I wonder whether this has been improved in 7.0

I can’t speak for if the function has been improved, as I’ve never tried this before. However, I did just export to a “site brain” from TheBrain 7 and it appears to work like a charm in Internet Explorer 9.
