If you're interested in learning more about Tinderbox, I've written a fairly long review that is now posted at Mac Appstorm. See here:
http://mac.appstorm.net/reviews/productivity-review/taking-the-information-plunge-with-tinderbox/
It was interesting writing about Tinderbox for that forum, because I couldn't hide from some of Tinderbox's quirks and issues. About half way through the process I'd actually convinced myself that Tinderbox was too challenging to be useful for most people, but by the end of the process I'd regained and strengthed my affection for the program. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, for sure, but I am really attached to it.

I've been looking forward to this review. The anticipation was justified. Thanks Steve! (And I note I should go and see "Monsters"!)

Brilliant Steve!
I'm already CRIMPing in anticipation of the Windows version of Tinderbox. I see that it is in RC stage.

Thanks, Hugh and Alex, I appreciate the kind comments.
Alex, I actually didn't know that the Windows version has a release candidate. That's exciting news!
Hugh, yes, "Monsters" is a nice surprise. A low-budget, science fiction thriller that's also a great allegory. Of course, "Monsters" could be the subtitle for the documentary "Inside Job."

Steve.
Thanks for the detailed review. Made me grip my teeth because I more or less (in fact "more") decided to quit the Mac platform only keeping my beloved Powerbook for novel writing (for which I do not need TB).
@Alex: Where did you see a Release Candidate mentioned? That would be great news.

I believe that's a totally different app that just happens to share the same name. As for Tinderbox as in Eastgate's Tinderbox, I also had not heard about the Windows version being in RC stage, but there may be something I don't know.
(I continue to hesitate about using Tinderbox since I prefer to use cross-platform tools for my notes, although I haven't found anything I really like.)

That is not Eastgate's Tinderbox. It is an open-source library for developing C++ apps.

Did you see that: http://www.appreaders.com/?p=993
It's a 1:1 copy of your AppStorm review without mentioning you as the author. They only link back to the original review at the end of the post.
Strange.

Yes, indeed. But I think we'll have to agree to disagree about "No Country for Old Men". ;)
P.S. There's already one very complimentary post on the Eastgate forum.

Thanks for alerting me to this, Franz. Not much I can do about it, except leave a snarky comment -- which I did.

That was a nice comment on the Tinderbox forum. Thanks for pointing it out to me, Hugh.
Not to start a very off-topic tangent, but I was wondering if my negative review of "No Country for Old Men" would be noticed and/or elicite a reaction. The Cohn Brothers are excellent craftsmen, so there is high-quality filmmaking on the screen, but I just found "No Country" so bleak and disturbing, it makes "Schindler's List" seem like a feel-good movie. Either that or there was some context to the film that I just didn't get -- not entirely impossible.

@ Everyone
Apologies for the false alarm. After reading Steve's review, I googled Tinderbox for Windows and got the link Cassius mentioned. I saw that there was no high-ranked mention of it in Eastgate but didn't search further. I assume that I just wanted it too much to happen.
In the good old days I would have downloaded the RC and found out for myself that it was completely irrelevant. However, now I only have two Windows machines that are both used in production, so I don't install beta/RC stuff.
@ Steve, re
I believe you should inform appstorm, in case they don't know about it already. I am quite certain that there is something they can and would be willing to do.
