We’ve discussed this terrific outliner, task-list-builder in the past, and I thought some of you might be interested in knowing that version 3.0 is now out. Check here:

Hot damn! Nice little number - works really rather well for something that’s apparently so simple. And it has no footprint at all!

It’s interesting to compare Noteliner with the new Windows version of Noteshare. Actually, there is no comparison. Noteliner is far and away the better application (excepting the collaboration features of Noteshare). It is a much more nimble outliner—try banging out some thoughts in the two. Noteshare feels incredible stiff, while Noteliner is fast. I couldn’t even use the ctrl-tab function to indent an item in Noteshare, which is obviously a bug, but an unconscionable one.
Then there is the “notebook” aspect of Noteshare, which I would propose is their main interface feature. Anything that can be done with that can be duplicated in Noteliner—just without the “notebook” metaphor. Just bookmark any item in Noteliner and you can drill down to it instantly with the pull down menu. Same results, as having a “section,” just a different method. You can add due dates to notes in Noteliner, which you can’t in NS; and it is easier to add tags to an item. In Noteliner you can easily change the “state” of the note just by clicking on the bullet; whereas NS requires you to open the “state” column and then click on it—and the only states you can choose from are complete or incomplete.
I find this comparison interesting, because I think we can get too bogged down in how an application looks, because NS is by far the slicker of the two. And in fairness I may have missed some of the benefits of NS.
Still, I have to say thanks to Noteliner’s developer, Sam Hawskworth, who has single-handedly given us a terrific application. That it is free is a bonus.

Thanks Steve, it was your post (among others) in December that got me started with this wonderful outliner.
The release of Noteliner 3 RC1 has taken it forward by giant steps. Its notetaking and brainstorming usability far exceeds that of any other program I have used (even Grandview for those who remember it) because it is fast, portable and simple but very powerful. I love its one page outliner approach with hoisting (drill down), bookmarking, folding and now external hyperlinking. Items can be dated and their status shown visually so todos can be both heirarchically arranged and intermingled with notes - good for projects. Its search, filtering and tagging are lightning fast and it is being actively developed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. I now reach for it automatically as my writing/notetaking tool of choice and echo your thanks to Sam Hawksworth.
