Well, well, well - I’ve long admired (from a distance) the rather nice NoteTaker and NoteShare software by Aquaminds. Sadly, they’ve only ever been available for MacOS. But guess what, they’ve just gone cross-platform! Better still, they’re offering not just a desktop product (Express Desktop), but also a Server Pro product AND a web interface, too. The server and web products are fully cross-platform, the Express Desktop runs on Windows and Linux. Very, very interesting.
I’m off to have a play…
Cheers,

Thanks for the heads up on this, Bill. After spending half an hour—admittedly a very short amount of time—playing around with NoteShare for PC, I’m not very impressed. It certainly does not come close to matching the capability of NoteTaker, or its cousin application, Circus Ponies Notebook. For example, it has a special To Do section, but there is no way that I’ve discovered to add a due date. To add a tag to an item in a list, you have to first open the tag column, then click in the column, which opens a whole additional window, then you have to click in the search field box of this new window. That’s a very convoluted process for what should be fast and simple.
I’m struggling to figure out why I would choose this over OneNote. Two things, maybe. It’s cheaper and it is outline-based. Even as an outliner it isn’t particularly powerful.
It does seem to be built specifically for collaboration, so it might do well in that regard. Otherwise, it still feels like a work in progress. What has your exprience been? Am I missing something? I’d like to learn that I have, because we certainly have a dearth of good outliners on the PC.

I have to agree, Steve, it’s really rather disappointing - I was hoping for something much more impressive from Aquaminds. I also tried to play with the web server feature (simply by accessing the Example notebooks they have on their website), but found my browser (Chrome 10) hung up on their Java implementation. Oh dear. Still, worth watching for the future, maybe…
