Believe it or not, yes, it’s real. You can use “Help-Web Update” from within your current version 2.x to download the update installer.
The installer file is hidden, but you can find it by searching for files with names beginning with “cwu” . The file size is 7,393 kb. On my Win XP Media Edition laptop, the file was in
c:\documents and settings\my name\local settings\temp\
Note: You will also find a lot of other, small CWU…. files. in various folders. I don’t know if they are needed to install. If you don’t want to install immediately, be sure to copy the 7,393 kb file elsewhere…it may disappear from the temp file.
If you don’t have NoteMap, you can find a link to a free trial download at http://law.lexisnexis.com/NoteMap.

Cassius, are you saying that this file allows one to get around having to pay for version 2?
I downloaded version 2 today after seeing your first note. It is not clear to me whether a registered version 1 user has to pay the full cost, or if there is an upgrade cost.
How do you like version 2 compared with the first version?
Thx.

Daly,
I think he’s just saying that if you have version 2, you can use the automatic update. Lo and behold, he’s correct, there is an update. Mostly it looks cosmetic, with a new splash screen. It also has a link to “Total Litigator” on the tool bar, which is a Lexis/Nexis web site.
It has been a while since I upgraded from Version 1, but my recollection is that Version 2 is definitely a big improvement.

I expect that you need to have Version 2 in order to update. Since I obtained the updater file by using the Web update item in my Version 2 Help menu, I have no idea what URL the file came from.
Unlike Steve Z, I did not think that Ver 2 was worth the amount asked for the upgrade from Ver 1. However, I eventually purchased the ver 2 upgrade because CaseSoft ran a special on on it at a reduced price.
Who knows? Maybe the $49 upgrade special is still available. Look for it at https://secure.cnchost.com/casesoft.com/orderupgrade.htm
Further, Ver 2 export to RTF or Word formats was less than perfect. I’m hoping that this latest update fixes that.
