Yuriy, the new developer of Ariadne wasted no time in getting the install glitch fixed. When I got home from supper, I could download Ariadne, and I’ve spent the last half hour reacquainting myself with the program.
After going about five years without development, the program’s basic elegance remains. It’s reflected in such features as the Grep Search, which provides preconfigured searches for basic default categories, as well as user determined categories or tags. Very neat.
The locus feature allows setting up a series of hoists. I’d like to have a separate hoist feature, but frankly, wouldn’t want to se locus go - why not have both.
The browser component is gone. I was disappointed at first, but given that it’s a six or seven year old browser, not a big loss. I hope it comes back, and I hope as well that Ariadne develops first class web clipping abilities similar to Surfulater’s, so one is not dependent on the internal browser. Mind you, when Ariadne was new, its browser was as good as anything out there, and it was a super easy way to browse, organize bookmarks, etc.
As I wrote before, the system of notes and comments is idea for writers. In an email Yuriy was already asking about how I might see it being improved.
One feature I’d like to see is the ability to associate note and comment items or, to use Ariadne’s term, objects, with individual lines in tables
At the beginning I used the term elegance. The problem with elegance is it’s often i the mind of the beholder, and it can mean different things for different folk. So what do I mean by it?
I mean that Ariadne does what it’s meant to do in a manner that does not intrude on the doing of it. Ariadne’s functions are well thought out, and simple without being simplistic. The temptation with simplicity is to underestimate it, confusing it with simplistic. That’s a mistake with Ariadne.
It’s good to see a sound piece of software be revived. If Yuriy stays the course, given the underlying robust nature of Ariadne, I think it could become a major player in the personal information management market segment.

I recall Ariadne. It did seem quite elegant, although I remember being a little baffled by some of the functions… I never figured out what a grep was or how to use it. Still, it is nice to see that Ariadne is back. Thanks for the intel, Daly!
