If I don't learn about them on this forum, it is most likely via the PKM subreddit or a video pops up on my YouTube feed. Don't remember where I learned about Noteey first.
If you give Noteey a try, I'd like to hear about your experience.

Hello again Steve,
Thanks again for sharing your latest finds! :) (I'm just curious
where/how to find out about these apps.)
Noteey seems to be on the path to being an app I could use for
annotating research papers and linking points.
It reminds me of MarginNote, though much less complex and cleaner
userface. I hope the app offers more export options for PDF annotations
than just the flattened PDF, as it is now in MarginNote. I'll be keeping
an eye on this app too.
New Year greetings to you too. :)

Just a quick update on Walling. I needed to do some work with my wife and thought we would continue to use Walling since I have a paid account and she has a free account. I went to use their web clipper and it still has not been fixed. I also sent off a message to support a few days ago and have not received any reply. A look at their blog and all their posts mention AI, but nothing about big fixes or other program improvements. The clipper was a key feature of my selecting Walling as it was so easy to search the web and just send links to my site. Perhaps I am not the target customer as I have no interest in Walling, but the new ownership has been such a major disappointment.

Have you tried the clipper with a different browser?

Fair question. I have not. Chrome is my primary browser, warts and all. I use Edge at work and am not a huge fan, but find it passable. Still, Chrome occupies a large share of the market, and Walling still has not even answered my inquiry. Not good signs in general. I can paste the links directly in Walling and get a somewhat similar bookmark, but it is a slower process. I am not in any immediate hurry for a replacement, but am actively looking. I liked a lot about Milanote, except the price, and am now trying out Craft. The latter does not have a clipper, but does offer bookmarks similar to Walling. Something may have to give, and I am just not sure what that will be.

Have you tried xTiles? There is some similarity with Walling. The subscriptions start at $5.75 per month on an annual plan.

Yes. It has been a while since I used it, but I did when it was initially released. At the time, I had some performance issues with their clipper, but I have not checked that since. I did play around with it the other day, and need to give it some additional consideration. But at the moment, I am trying to see what Craft.do brings to the table. It does not have a clipper, but it does create a somewhat usable bookmark when pasting.
Thanks,

On macOS, there is a Share Extension for Craft On iOS/iPadOS, selected text can be shared to Craft. And, on macOS, selected text can be shared to the Craft share extension via the Share… command in the macOS contextual menu.
In all cases, sharing to an existing document (as a block) or by creating a new document.

I just got this message from the new Walling team, for what it's worth:
We have some important updates about Walling's future and wanted to share them directly with you.
We understand it's been some time since the last update to the live version of Walling. After careful consideration and detailed analysis, we've recognized that to bring essential features—such as robust undo functionality—and to set up Walling for sustainable long-term growth, a deep architectural shift is necessary.
Incrementally updating the current app would require extensive resources and only limited our potential to deliver the truly resilient, scalable, and innovative experience you deserve. Instead, we decided to invest fully in rebuilding Walling from the ground up.
Here's what this means for you:
Continued Support, Slower Response: While we don't have the resources to actively fix bugs in the current version, we will keep the platform stable and running as-is until the new version is ready. As we’ve shifted our team’s focus to building the new Walling, support responses will be slower than usual, and we appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.
Focused Development: All new feature development and enhancements are being directed toward the next generation of Walling. Your feedback on the current version is being taken into consideration in the new version.
Long-term Vision: Our goal is to provide a vastly improved, more reliable, and feature-rich platform that fully embodies the unique, visual, non-linear approach that makes Walling valuable to your workflow.
We deeply appreciate your patience and continued support during this transition. We’re moving as quickly as possible to deliver a high-quality, next-generation Walling experience. Stay tuned for updates on our progress!
Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Warm regards,
The Walling Team

I received the same, somewhat underwhelming, message as well. Not really sure what the developer has been spending their time on this past year, but I am now trying out other programs. I just need to see how difficult it will be to migrate all of my data out of Walling in some useable fashion. And as a side note, I also received a recent email from the developer of Craft. They are now working on a mobile version so it can be used on Android devices, and were looking for users interested in beta testing. It was a much more positive message, and was in pretty stark contract with the Walling message.

Apparently some poor coding decisions were made at Walling's outset and they provided a poor foundation to build on. This is going to cost them.
I assume the service will see an exodus of regular users to alternatives like XTiles and Milanote, and maybe even Notion. XTiles plans are roughly equivalent in price but Milanote (probably the best of this type of product) costs 40% more.
