Invasive ads

Hi, all,

I understand that Chris needs to get some compensation for running this site, which I very much appreciate. But recently the ads have become very invasive. They pop up blocking the main screen until I dismiss them. Click to some other topic, and up they pop again. This is very annoying. Does anyone else experience this? If so, what do you think. I don't want to be a jerk about this, but it makes me not want to access the posts here.

I don't see them. My browsers usually have integrated pop-up and ad blockers. Much of the internet is impossible otherwise.

I don't know if ads are employed by the site owner but I've never once seen an ad on this site. Although I use an ad-blocker, every major browser today also has the ability in its Settings to block pop-ups.

I've seen the same format ads appear on other sites. They may be something injected by the hosting company, not our benefactor here.

Steve, sorry you are getting intrusive ads. I actually thought I removed all advertising from the site, but maybe I missed something. I'll look into it.

Okay, let me know if you still get ads; apparently, there was an "auto-ads" setting still on and I have now turned that off.

Hi, Chris,

The ads I was complaining about have gone away. Thank you.

Heh, Safari never showed them – just sayin’...

Safari did show them for me, in fact.
They are now gone now, thanks Chris, much appreciated!

Greatly appreciated, Chris. I did not mind the ads that showed up on the side panel, but I visit several sites that have the ads that pop up when you either move the cursor as if you are leaving, or if you click on a link. Definitely annoying.

I saw them on Safari, too. Probably there's a setting I didn't use.

In the left column, select "Pop-up Windows".

On the right side, you will see a list of websites, where you can click the blue arrows next to each website and select "Block" to block pop-ups from that site.

You can also globally choose "Block and Notify" to be alerted when a pop-up is blocked on all other websites. (Or to completely block all pop-ups without notifying you [recommended], click the blue arrow next to "When visiting other websites" and select "Block".)

(By the way, using '>' symbol to quote text from Stephen for some reason instead hid the symbol + text.)

Thank you! Turns out, however, that I do have Block and Notify selected for all websites. Not sure why it didn't work for this site!

Again, thanks!

Steve
