Suggestions for a Task/Project Management Software that has a 1:1 mind map view?

I have been searching for something to keep my ADHD self organized, and I think I know the features I need. I'm about to give up hope finding something, but I found this forum and thought maybe my fellow organizational nerds might have a suggestion!

I need a PM supports:

1. Tasks with unlimited sub tasks
2. Cloud file integration
3. **Custom fields & sorting** with a dynamic text field.
4. **Drag & Drop linking to local files** (as stored in C:\\ or Link to OneDrive via Drag & Drop)
5. **A workable mind map view which maps tasks & subtasks 1:1**
6. Viewing tasks as a list or table view and a Kanban/card-type of view.

*Some of the programs I've tried already: Asana, Wrike, Airtable ClickUp, Mind Node, Notion, Coggle ,Mind42, Obsidian, ConceptDraw; MindMeister, SimpleMind, Creately, MindManager, Taskade, FreeMind, MindMup, TheBrain, Freeplane, Mindomo, Workflowy, LucidSpark, MindView, XMind, MindMaster, MindMeister, Miro.

It has proved absurdly difficult to find that set of features, and I would be ***extremely extreme*** grateful for suggestions!

I don't know if it meets all of your requirements, but you might check out Ayoa. It combines mind mapping with task management:

I used Ayoa intensively for a while but ultimately walked away. The navigation and UI felt like navigating a lot of narrow alleys, reaching dead ends, then having to navigate back out again and delete the mistakes I had just made.

I haven't used it for a while, but I believe that MindGenius Online should cover most of the points you mention; scroll down at the page below to see the views it offers :

One word of warning: IMHO, unlimited levels of subtasks _don't_ combine well with mind maps which generally offer sub-optimal use of screen real estate. That said, I recall MindGenius offering a complementary bird's eye view of the mind map, allowing one to focus and augment the detail in specific areas of the map, while still maintaining the overview.

I'd have said that with the appropriate plug-ins, Obsidian would be your friend – but I see you've already tried it...

I REALLY wanted to like Ayoa. It's so colorful too! Unfortunately, basic features like changing or adding a tag to multiple items at once are missing. If you want to change the date for 10 items...when I used it you had to edit 10 separate tasks 10 separate times.

I actually had a demo with one of their guys. The desktop version can't search multiple maps, and the web version can't use features like drag & drop and the notes suck.

What plugins? I tried the mind-map one, but it just gave me like, paragraphs? It wasn't like topics I could open for notes. Also, everything is just ALL BLACK. There's no color anywhere...

What do you mean by dynamic text field?

Busy bee. You've tried them all, but maybe take a look at Taskheat -- not 100% of your requirements, but maybe 80%? 60%?

You could also try Zenkit Base. It includes a "Hierarchy" view and a "Mindmap" view. It has custom fields. I don't know about integrating with Windows files. (A limitation is that the Hierarchy view doesn't show columns, and the table view doesn't show hierarchy.)

That being said, InfoQube is far more robust, and integrates well with Windows, although its Kanban-like functionality isn't a built-in Kanban view, but rather a type of functionality that can be set up.

Correction: IQ does have a built-in card view (I now see that the original post referred to "Kanban/card-type of view"). I was just referring to kanban-type functionality, which is also achievable in IQ but requires some set-up.
Pierre Paul Landry 6/5/2023 8:12 pm
Hi Lucas,

Indeed Kanban is possible in IQ, and the sample database includes such a view. It is configurable as you say, you can even have 2 or more Kanban columns in the same column, stacked. Columns (i.e. states) need not be mutually exclusive (i.e. dragging an item from one column to another *can* leave the item there (i.e. item shown in both columns)

By dynamic text field, I mean something I can insert images, tables, etc. into - like you can in ClickUp's text field or in MS Word.

This might be great! I'm trying it out (as of ~10 minutes ago) and it seems okay so far -- the only thing I'm struggling with is that the mind map view doesn't seem to populate, all tasks have to be dragged manually. However, the knowledge base says it should, I think, and I messaged support on it. We'll see.
(I'd also love if I could add icons to tasks, I've been using TheBrain and I've found that adding an icon is really effective to me for identifying tasks vs. reading through all the text.)

Thanks for the recommendation - since there's a portable I'm going to give this a shot.

Pierre I have to say I'm impressed with the features. I just started going through the manual and I can tell it's going to take a while to demo this, I'm really hoping this works out though. I saw something about information being able to be linked to multiple parents and such in a couple of reviews, does that mean there's something like thebrain.io's Plex view somewhere?

Hi,

This was written a couple years ago, and quite a few things have been added since, namely [[ ]] in-line item links and ## in-line tags but it is nevertheless quite comprehensive:

What I find most interesting about that review is that none of the programs are mentioned in Stephen Zeoli's thread.
Cyganet 6/14/2023 10:18 pm
They're all on Windows as native applications and don't have mobile or web versions.
