There might be lots of good reasons for the Scrintal business strategy, but there are also lots of reasons to find the hype-centric approach distasteful. Certain practices seem to be becoming normalized, but that doesn’t mean they should become accepted.
If developers want to require a paid subscription in order to test software (or even if they want to require hour-long onboarding calls), they shouldn’t make it sound like users are somehow lucky to have the opportunity to spend their money/time for the honor. It’s almost insulting to play up the hype card, the countdown, until the lucky day when users can spend their money/time in order to test something, rather than testing it first and then deciding what to invest. I have no problem with the pricing structure—-they have the right to set their terms—-but the strategy-plus-hype is a bit much.

I don’t mind hype. Makes it easier to learn about something I’m interested in. Nor do I mind paying for earlier access. My original post about their launch strategy was in context of a post questioning whether it implied they were under pressure financially, and I don’t think it does however distasteful some might find it. Presumably you don’t like the strategy being used by Tana Inc either.
I think Scrintal might be under more pressure from their desire to interact only in normal Swedish working hours and have weekends off; I’m not sure the internet or their competition works like that.
My primary note-taker is Tangent Notes. No hype and a very small number of users. Pluses and minuses to that.
I’m checking out both Scrintal and Heptabase and fwiw I see Scrintal as fitting most easily into my workflows. Can’t use it much now because it doesn’t have dark mode yet, but I’ll keep my subscription going for the full year. I’d like them to be successful.

I see your point. Perhaps my curmudgeonly tendencies were getting the better of me, and I certainly don’t mind the Tana approach. Anyway, I do look forward to giving Scrintal a spin at some point, although I generally prefer tools that allow for a block-based workflow (collecting and working with bullets/blocks from multiple notes), and as far as I can tell without testing, it looks like Scrintal doesn’t have thet (yet).

I just got another email from Scrintal informing me that I haven’t yet sent them money to help test their beta product but that quite a few spots still remain in the early access program in case it had slipped their mind. I’m happy to transfer my early access “invitation” (if that’s possible) to anyone who wants one but hasn’t got one.
