Looks like a remix/update of his browser-based Little Outliner,

http://docserver.scripting.com/drummer/about.opml

Sign-on is using Twitter's API. Winer says has no access to your password and Twitter gets no access to your outlines either.

The app saves files in OPML, and lets you output to insta-create a webpage he hosts. For free. Like this person's:

oldschool.scripting.com/rtanglao/

As with all Winer's projects he reserves the right to shut it down whenever he wants (as he's done with other projects in the past). Still, it's an interesting alpha-test product, and he's putting a lot of time in it of late; here's the app's blog, with regular change notes:

http://scripting.com/drummer/blog/

Lots of updating, like the ability to use a custom domain they control for their Drummer blogs.

https://github.com/scripting/drummerSupport/issues/67

Winer says, "You can use Drummer at no cost. Further: Much of the software is open source. Why is it so inexpensive and will it always be that way? I don't have big plans to take over the universe. I just want to make sure that outlining, web scripting and easy, fluid blogging are not lost arts. I have been very lucky in my career, so at this point, money, at least the kind of money it takes to operate Drummer, is not an issue. So let's have fun and see where it takes us!"

I wrote a blog post about Drummer, using an outliner for blogging, and how my outliner (Zavala) is going to participate in that space. https://vincode.io/2021/10/17/drummer.html

Interesting, Maurice!

FYI you might find this mobile app dream-list from Winer to be of interest:

I saw that!

Unfortunately, the post content doesn't match the title. He's really asking for a web app that has a responsive design and can run on a mobile device. To do what he is asking for there would have to be a server side component. I'm not really down for building or paying to host that.

Dave's famously anti-Apple, probably for good reason. But, Zavala is unapologetically an Apple ecosphere app. It uses iCloud for syncing and collaboration. The scripting capabilities are going to be based on Shortcuts, another Apple proprietary thing. I don't think it is an app that Dave would necessarily find attractive.

Still, he has interesting ideas and it pays to listen to what he is saying.

Manton Reece just hook up MicroBlog to Drummer via the OPML bridge, wrote about it here (and mentioned Zavala):

Manton works amazingly fast. I think he still needs to add support for images, but that shouldn't take him too long.

The CMS that Dave created that works with Drummer is called Old School. I think I should be able to push OPML files to Old School from Zavala. That would make for a more user friendly UI (in my humble opinion). I find Drummer to be a bit clunky.

The main obstacle is that Drummer produces an extended version of OPML that is different than Zavala does. Zavala uses Markdown for formatting and linking in OPML files and it looks like Dave is using HTML in his extended OPML. Dave has also extended it other areas and adding other tags that Zavala doesn't understand, like for inline image linking. I suppose the Markdown to HTML conversion is easy enough. As long as the user stays away from images, I think I could get it working in short order.

I'll keep my eye on Old School as a possible publishing platform. I'm not sold on it yet and would probably be better served by implementing Word Press publishing first.

In addition Dave Winer's continued work on Drummer as an outliner-based scripting system for web(sites) he's just created a Treechart app that hooks up with Drummer.
