It would be more accurate to say there have been a number of products created in reaction to Workflowy, of which Dynalist was one.

Erica from Dynalist/Obsidian freely cops to having created Dynalist at a time when Workflowy had been stagnating in development for a while and seemed to be moribund. (Shortly after Dynalist’s rise in popularity Workflowy’s devs woke up and resumed support which continues to this day.)
Workflowy really took off around nine years ago, right after Farhad Manjoo (now at the NY Times) wrote about it for Slate:
A couple of years ago someone asked Manjoo if he was still using Workflowy and he said yes.

Another option, though I have not used it myself, could be Taskade: https://www.taskade.com/
